House hunting was very fun for us! We found a great house for slightly under our budget, everything we wanted and more. And in the first week of looking no less!
Oh, then after we'd put in a bona fide offer, which the seller accepted, and both of Dulci & I had terminated our monthly leases, the seller decided he didn't want to sell after all. [Big smiles!]
Since he'd agreed to sell at such & such a price, by such & such a date, well, he could only back out if he A: found us an equivalent house in the area, B: paid both realtors' fees for a lost sale, C: made up the difference in sale price, D: paid for Dulci & me to live in a hotel and our stuff to go into storage, and E: paid a per diem rental price for property that he'd agreed to hand over by such & such a date until he agreed (for the third time) to sell it to us.
He walked away spitting like we were criminals. Yeah, with a big bag of our money for property that he'd paid 1/4 of selling price 7 years earlier.
I feel just so guilty. Because Dulci and I are just such wheeler-dealers that we could screw, well, anybody... Yeah, right!
That's a bit more interesting of a story then i think i'm really up for in house hunting. Granted you ended up with a house you like and good amount of land. I'm sure the time frame when that was questionable was not the most enjoyable. Thank you for telling your story it is interesting what he would have to do if he desided not to sell you his land.
