So Mr. Asscock has been away, out of the country making fun of other cultures and religions and such no doubt. He's sent me his musings from afar. If you're offended by the following in any way, it probably just means that you're a decent person at heart:
"I don't get many chances to write important points to LJ anymore, since all the shit hit the fan some years ago. But I find the disabled funny enough in what they (don't) do, that at times it warrants open discussion. This weekend, the legally blind governor of New York was the subject of parody on SNL. In it, he is portrayed as a coke addict who wanders around bumping into walls and entering the screen when it's not his time to do so - funny shit. Apparently, the Governor was offended by this depiction, and said it was offensive to all blind people and all people with disabilities. Then the National Federation of the Blind criticized the skit and called it 'absolutely wrong and an attack on blind Americans.' This poses one simple question -
How do blind people know it was an offensive depiction when they haven't seen it yet?"
Again, I apologize, he's his own beast...I especially apologize to any blind people reading this.
