"The War"
I was wandering through the book store with my brother the other day when we noticed a book by a Fox news analyst about the "war on Christmas." I hadn't been aware that there was any such war, although apparently the recent Christmas tree incident in the Seattle-Tacoma Airport was just one in a long line of carefully constructed attacks on the birth of Jesus by the left-wing conspiracy. I had no idea that the situation was so dire, that soon the battle will clearly be taken to the home itself, and no tree or nativity will be permitted to stand lest the neighbors should be offended.
Or someone's taking things a little out of proportion. Way out of proportion. An article in the Seattle Times today (you can read this at www.seattletimes.com, it's on the front page) indicated that some organizations were making a good deal of money by exploiting this conflict and stirring the pot. It occurred to me as I read it this morning that an article such as this might have been indistinguishable from an article you might read in the Onion a few years back. What we once might have considered a good-natured joke has now surfaced as a reality.
