DFRPG, traditional fantasy, and laws of magic

Reading DFRPG some more and thinking, alternately, of adapting it to traditional fantasy or Lovecraftian game. For traditional fantasy, I'm stuck contemplating how the whole Laws of Magic could/should be translated. Obviously, it's there to support the elements of Dresden Files in particular.

On the face of it, the Laws of Magic restrict a lot of the stuff wizards typically DO in traditional fantasy games -- blow people up, turn them into frogs, rip minds in two. However, from a game integrity standpoint, there is some merit to going the Dresden Files route. Also, having a traditional fantasy where wizards avoid these typical things creates a lot of interesting motivation to be clever, and a lot of setting-flavor in contemplating why they are forbidden from such things.

Also gives one of those good 'why is the powerful wizard partnered with a knight.' (Because the knight can kill stuff and that doesn't violate magical laws)
