Words are worth a thousand words, too

Insidious (2010)

I go into every movie now with the mindset that I'm about to watch something totally awful and that I'll get to post it here because it's such a steaming pile of godawful pondscum that when movies are any good, and I mean any good, I get surprised and pleased and I end up not posting them simply because I have nothing bad to say.

But nobody ever said I couldn't post about things I like.

That aside, this is still kind of awful. The story line is as predictable as a guy holding a sign that reads 'I'm about to kill my family', the characters are cliche and borderline bullshit, and the parents are hipsters who need lessons on how to name kids. Other than that, the demon and the ghosts actually scared me on a number of occasions, including but not limited to the scene at the table when the demon shows up behind Patrick Wilson, and, in the same scene, when the grandmother is talking about her dream and when she saw the demon in the kid's room. Freaky shit and worth a quick jump and scare, but the scenes where the spirits are already there and not just jumping out at you aren't scary at all.

The ending was good. Expected, but not terrible. An interesting twist, especially in the company of the horrible, horrible garbage I've already reviewed here.

Now for the part that matters. I already mentioned Patrick Wilson. He's there. It's awesome.
