SAMAEL (series of drabbles - #5)

He sat easily beside the corpse of the boy. The spirit had long gone; death had taken it quickly. But this was not the first time that he had taken pleasure in one-sided conversation.
I would apologize, except that I feel absolutely no regret. And in any case, it was entirely your brother’s doing.
He tilted his head back, and spread out his white wings to bask in the sun.
It’s funny. How easily your precious gift can be taken away. It was only one rock, wasn’t it? But then Cain could have killed you with his bare hands if he’d wanted to. The rock was symbolic, I suppose.
A crow fluttered down beside the corpse, and he held out his hand. Obligingly the bird hopped onto his wrist. He began stroking its feathers.
Here’s the thing, child. I didn’t make Cain do anything. I only fanned the spark that was already there.
The crow cawed once, and ruffled its wings into his touch. He smiled.
I can’t wait until there are more of you. Imagine all of that envy, all of that anger, all of that hatred filling up the world. Imagine that: you were the good son, but your only inheritance was death. Cain and his children will inherit the entire earth.
