Title: Of First Meetings and Spare Keys
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Krispylays (KrisxLay), ninja!Hunhan
Disclaimer: I own everything fuck you guys
Summary: Yixing meets Kris on the playground. Shit happens from then on.

Yixing is seven when he first meets Wufan. Wufan is scary even as a child, perpetual bitch face etched on to his features even at the tender age of eight (though that never stopped Yixing, really). Wufan is reading a book on his own while the other kids play around and have fun on the playground (Wufan’s never been good at socializing). Yixing thinks Wufan looks lonely, and takes it upon himself, dimpled smile and all, to say hi to him.
Yifan ignores him with a roll of his eyes, but Yixing remains unperturbed and clambers to sit on the bench next to the older boy, opting to read over (more like beside, actually) Wufan’s shoulder. Wufan then takes it upon himself to display his annoyance, whacking Yixing on the head with his book, muttering about how “little children should leave their elders alone”, despite the fact that Yixing is only a year younger than him.
Yixing brings his own book the next day.
~
Wufan is eleven when someone calls him Angry Bird. He remains conflicted for the rest of the day over whether to feel flattered that he’s named after the most popular game in town or to be insulted that he was likened to a big, red, round thing with feathers and a beak.
Yixing recommends the latter while pointing out that he wouldn’t be called an angry bird if he’d just get rid of his bitch face, earning him a flick on the forehead from an annoyed (and slightly outraged) Wufan.
Yixing smiles and laces their fingers together. “You know I’m joking,” he laughs. “Besides, you’re much too tall to be an angry bird, and you wouldn’t make a very good projectile either. You’re more like a dragon… big, strong and scary,” he beams.
Then he’s standing on his tiptoes to pat Wufan on the head before pulling his hand away and scampering downstairs because Wufan’s mom is calling for him and telling him his mom’s here to pick him up.
Wufan stares at his hand that night, imagining Yixing’s fingers fitting the spaces between his own perfectly, too perfectly, as if they were always meant to be that way.
(He wonders why his heart won’t stop racing)
~
Wufan is seventeen when he starts telling those around him to call him Kris. Yixing laughs at the name and promptly refuses. Wufan scowls.
“You sound like a poseur American douchebag,” Yixing exclaims between fits of laughter. “It’s like… Kreeeeeeeeease,” he drawls out lazily, before chuckling to himself as if it’s been the funniest thing he’s heard all day (well it is, technically). Wufan raises his hand to flick him on the forehead as punishment, but Yixing is too fast and too used to this treatment, dodging it easily.
“Besides, I’ve known you for too long. I’ve known you all my life as Wufan, and my Wufan you shall stay.” Wufan smiles to himself because really, he can’t resist Yixing when he’s being all sweet and cute and-
“Plus, I’ve already reminded everyone about your old nickname - Angry Bird, remember, Fanfan?”
Wufan chases after Yixing around the school, and Yixing screams bloody murder, catching the attention of not only the students but also the discipline master.
They both get detentions for a week.
(Wufan swears he is going to kill his best friend if it’s the last thing he does)
~
Yixing loses his first kiss when he is twenty-one. Wufan takes him out for drinks to celebrate his birthday, and Yixing, being Yixing, forgets about his low alcohol tolerance (as well as the number of shots he’s downed). His mind is in a haze when he stands on his tiptoes, leans in, and brushes his lips against Wufan’s ever-so-slightly. Wufan, on the other hand, is completely sober, eyes widening in panic as he pushes away from Yixing.
He bails without a second look.
~
Yixing’s not sure how he got home, but he wakes up in his bed with a splitting headache. He groans as he fumbles his way to the kitchen for coffee and aspirin while desperately trying to remember the previous night’s events. It takes three missed (avoided) calls to Wufan for Yixing to realize something not so good has happened.
The recollections of the past night hit Yixing like a tidal wave somewhere between his third and his fourth coffee. His eyes widen in horror as he spits out his coffee (creating a mess in the process, though Jongin would’ve given it a 10/10). He brings his fingers to his lips, as if trying to collect the feeling of Wufan’s lips on his at his fingertips. He’s mortified that he’s let his feelings for his best friend be made known in this manner. Wufan obviously isn’t gay, and even if he was, why would he choose Yixing, of all people? Yixing wants to bury himself in the ground and never turn up on the face of this earth ever again.
There’s a slight ache in his heart as he remembers how Wufan pushed him away.
Yixing pretends it doesn’t exist as he buries himself under his blankets and deems today a day for staying at home and hiding from the world.
~
Wufan, on the other hand, is on the verge of ripping his hair out in frustration. Yixing was clearly drunk the night before, yet Wufan longs for it to be more than a moment of lack of clarity, for Yixing to have feelings for him. At the same time, he was afraid to find out the truth. He wouldn’t be able to handle a rejection from Yixing, yet he wouldn’t be satisfied not knowing the truth either.
He swears to listen to Yixing and do something about his indecisiveness soon.
He knows he can’t handle this situation on his own, so he turns to Luhan, a mutual friend of himself and Yixing.
~
“IDIOT WHY DIDN’T YOU KISS HIM BACK.” Luhan hits Wufan on the back of his head. Wufan is confused (about what Luhan has said, and also how someone so small could reach his head and whack it with such force). “What did I do wrong?” he whines. Luhan shakes his head in exasperation.
“Are you really that dense?” he snaps at Wufan. Wufan looks affronted. “I can float on water very well, thank you very much.” Luhan’s palm comes into contact with his face, and it takes all of his strength to resist the urge to bang Wufan’s face into a wall.
~
It takes half an hour of convincing on Luhan’s part to snap Wufan out of denial (and idiocy).
“So you mean Yixing likes me? You’re not just screwing around with me, are you?”Wufan asks for what seemed like the thousandth time.
“Yes. Just shut up and go already, please, I’m begging you.”
“But-“
“I swear to god, Wufan, if you don’t get the hell out of here, I’m going to make out with Sehun right in front of you.”
Wufan runs.
~
Yixing is buried under a pile of blankets when he hears someone ringing his doorbell. He’s about to get out of bed to open it, but decides that his eyes are too puffy and he looks too unglamorous to be seen by anyone, and rolls himself into his blankets till he’s made a human burrito.
He doesn’t expect the bed to dip under the weight of someone else. Yixing freezes and is about to scream when a pair of arms wrap around his waist, but then he hears an all-too-familiar chuckle and relaxes. It’s just Wufan.
Whom he kissed last night.
Shit.
~
With a yelp, Yixing leaps out of bed, letting out an unmanly shriek, and stares at him with eyes as wide as Kyungsoo’s. Wufan looks at him in amusement.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE” Yixing all but yells, face turning red.
“I came to see you, obviously. I know where you keep your spare key.”
Yixing makes a mental note to change the hiding location of his spare key.
“Did you not want to see me?” Wufan pouts, looking absolutely ridiculous.
“I-“
“Have you been crying? You know I hate it when you cry.” Suddenly Wufan is all up in Yixing’s face, brushing his bangs away to get a closer look at his eyes. Yixing flushes and pulls away.
“ You’re the one who’s been ignoring me all morning.” Wufan opens his mouth to explain, but Yixing doesn’t let him.
“I know what happened wasn’t expected and I knew it would make things awkward but I didn’t think you would stop talking to me completely,” Yixing’s speaking quietly, head bowed as he tries to keep in the tears that threaten to fall. “If you’re here to tell me you aren’t interested and you don’t swing that way, you can leave because I already know and -“
Yixing doesn’t get to finish his sentence because Wufan’s enveloping him into a hug, shocking him into silence.
“You’re so stupid,” he mutters under his breath and presses his lips lightly against Yixing’s forehead. Yixing doesn’t say anything, and buries his face into Wufan’s shoulder, breathing in his scent. He wraps his arms around Wufan a little tighter, as if to pull him closer.
Wufan carries Yixing back to the bed, and he’s about to slip under the covers next to him when Yixing sits up and gets out of bed.
“Where are you going?”
“To hide my spare key somewhere tall blonde giants won’t be able to find it.”
~
Yixing wakes up to the feeling of Wufan tracing the contours of his face.
“You’re awake” he murmurs, smiling and reaching his arms out to Wufan. Wufan laughs and cuddles him in his arms. He dips his head down and captures Yixing’s lips with his own. “Good morning” he mumbles against Yixing’s lips, addicted to the feeling of Yixing’s lips on his.
Yixing’s cheeks are flushed when they finally pull apart, and he smiles brightly at his boyfriend.
“Last one to the bathroom makes breakfast.”
Yixing runs ahead and Wufan curses under his breath.
No breakfast for the day, then.
