International box office: 'Airbender' and 'Expendables' battle for top spot Don't you think it's sad that China only allows something like 20 foreign films in every year and TLA is one of them? -_-; Or maybe it's 20 US films. Still...
The article says it's made $120 million at the international box office which means it's made $26 million since last weekend (up from $94M). Box Office Mojo hasn't updated the foreign gross yet.
"The 3D version of the Nickelodeon TV series; The Last Airbender opened in the top spot in
Mexico and performed strongly in China, drawing $18 million for a total of $120 million now, playing in 51 countries."
ScreenDaily
posted similar numbers.
The largest contribution came from the $4m number one debut in Mexico from 812. Initial estimates in China report a $2.6m launch from 1,500 locations.
The film also opened to an outstanding $650,000 in Peru from 47 venues. Elsewhere, there were strong holds in Germany ($2.5m from 597 for $9m), South Korea ($2.1m from 313 for $9.6m), and Brazil ($1.5m from 260 for $5m.
If it's true, that brings the worldwide total to $250 million -- $130M domestic + $120M foreign.
I cannot wait to find out what sort of dumb-ass things Shyamalan will say if it ends up being #1 at the international box office. His head will get so big that it will eventually have it's own gravitational field. Jackson Rathbone will orbit it like a tiny lifeless moon.
