(no subject)

So, I have a professor this semester who's in his 70s and therefore is rather old fashioned. We are all used to him saying things that sometimes make us uncomfortable or are frankly wrong.

Today, though, he said something that really made me wince. It is a politics class, and we always talk about current events at the start of class. Someone brought up the current question of whether they are going to get rid of "don't ask, don't tell." The professor said that the military is fighting this very strongly, which is true. However, somehow in the conversation he brought up the fact that women in the military can't do things such as be in submarines.

Okay, I won't go into the topic of how wrong I find that. However, gay men are not women, they are men. Their sexuality has nothing to do with their ability to fight or do all the tasks required in the military. I'm not quite sure what my professor feels about the subject, but he really seemed to be implying that it was the same issue.
