Monito del Monte
This is the Monito del Monte, a marsupial found in mountainous parts of Chile and Argentina.
Cute little guys, right? Here’s some wtf about them:
-They’re the only living members of the order Microbiotheria. The rest of the order lived and died during the Oligocene and Miocene epochs (about 34 to 6 million years ago).
-Before going into hibernation in the winter, they gorge themselves with food and store the fat. They can double their weight within a week when doing this.
-Some of that fat is stored in their tails and they end up looking like this:
There's also some hardcore superstition about these guys in parts of Chile. If they get into your house they bring bad luck and the only way to cure the house of the bad luck is to burn it down. Cause you can't have a cursed house if the house if a pile of smoldering ruins.
