Never thought I'd have something to post here, but it figures it came from PetSmart.

Last week, I bought crickets, and as I was tossing them in my lizard's cage, I noticed one had another, dead cricket stuck to him. I tried to shake them loose, but no go. On closer inspection, it turns out there was only one cricket, with a giant growth coming out ( Read more... )

I've seen some mutant crickets in my day but never like that!

If you have a young growing bearded dragon, might I suggest ordering crickets online. You can get 1,000 for $16.00, which is WAY cheaper than the petstores. You can buy in smaller quantities, but when my beardie was growing he'd eat at least 60 a day and 1,000 lasted me about two weeks.

Nah, that's normal, juvies need more protein than greens in their diets. Everyone I know who's owned them goes through the CF thousand boxes in two weeks, three at max.

Pinhead to medium-large, depending on how big the dragon was at the time. They stayed about constant relative to dragon size (the width from eye to eye) iirc. After seeing small leos rip through 20 huge mealies in a couple minutes, I wouldn't be surprised if they were large though.

He started on pinheads and as he grew bigger I went up to full 1" crickets. He's an adult now and eats 90% greens, 10% protein, but during that first year I would just keep giving him crickets until he stopped eating them, three times a day, and it definitely added up to about 60.

I have a rainbow ameiva, so he eats like, 1-2 a day o_o I'll definitely look into that if I ever get anything bigger, but right now, $1 a week isn't going to kill me^^
