we have family on vancouver island that we stay with every christmas. there's a beach there (parksville) that has a really crazy low tide, and in the winter, if it's cold and there are a lot of sea birds, you walk along the low tide line and find hundreds of dead, slimy, stinky geoducks just laying around, half-eaten. it's hot. (also, i pronounce it 'gooey-duck'. is that wrong?)

Nope, that's quite right. (I'm from NW Washington and grew up with a stuffed toy geoduck!)

I think I might have had one too. I remember wanting a geoduck rocking "horse" that I used to see too, but it was too expensive.

Oh, ha! I was wandering around Qualicum Beach one weekend last summer, and kept getting spat on whenever I walked over a geoduck hole. Very happy gulls. And about six pairs of eagles. Tres cool.
