Desmans!

I love these little critters.

Sup?

There are two kinds of desmans, the pyrenean desman and the russian desman. They're semi-aquatic insectivores and are related to moles.

They look like muskrats with trunks XD

Desmans have webbed feet and laterally flattened tails to aid swimming and feed on small fish and insects, which they find with their sensitive, flexible nose. Like moles, they're practically blind.

OMNOMMMMM

This is small but amazingly cute XD

Russian desmans are 18-21 cm long, with a tail length of 17-20 cm. So they're not tiny. They can weight up to 450g, making them about the size of a large rat (one of my bucks, anyway XD). They live in small groups and dig burrows into pond/river banks. They inhabit the Volga, Don and Ural River basins in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.(GREAT SUCCESS!)

Pyrenean desmans are a lot smaller. 11 to 16 cm long with a tail of 12 to 16 cm. They weigh 35-80g and live in pairs, with a lifespan of 3.5 years. They live in the pyrenees wetlands.

Unfortunately they're both considered vunerable, but are protected.
