Reading the paper this morning I came across a tiny news blurb that announced that one of my favorite writers, David Foster Wallace, had committed suicide on Friday, September 12. Some of his work can be difficult to get through, but if you'd like to read/listen to something quite funny and you have a lot of experience dating retarded men, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men is your ticket! When I saw DFW interviewed by Charlie Rose in 1997, I thought... If I was ever stranded on a deserted island I would want to be with this man! He's my perfect man -- equal parts tortured soul, genius, and intuition.
I am incredibly sad that DFW chose to end his life. What a terrible loss.
