It seems really badly considered. Dobby was a plot device so I see why he had to go. Same with Moody to an extent. But Fred and Hedwis were so random and just for shock value.

Yeah, well, I think that's what she was going for. And like, I think some of it is it can be anyone that dies. Like, really, anyone. And by killing Hedwig and Fred she makes you realize that more than before.

I think I'd be happier with that if it wasn't for the happily ever after ending spoiling the reality of the whole thing.

Me too! I read it when it first leaked and I was convinced by its badness that it was a fake. And when I realised it was real, I just couldn't look at it again.
