1. If he didn't know how to eat it, why didn't he ask someone?
2. You'd think the SHARP SPINES on the leaves would be a dead giveaway that you probably shouldn't eat them. Which should have prompted him, at the least, to point out the spines and say, "What the fuck is this? This doesn't look like food!"
