The answer: June, July, and August.
Forgot I had this thing! So my summer has been pretty good. May flew by with me working in the Wayne Band Library (I'm the WSU Band librarian!). So much shit to put in order down there, but I'm getting it all done little by little. That all continued into June of course. Also during those 2 months I was taking Intro to Music Tech. Really great course. I learned how to hook up MIDI keyboards, synch them with computers, and then operate between Digital Performer and Finale 2005. Useful and fun at the same time so it was really cool.
July has been full of relaxation...too much actually. I've been slackin on practice and I had a rude awakening today when I had my first rehearsal for Seussical the Musical. My chops are out of shape. So from this day forth I commit 2 hours a day to my horn doing everything from learning a new solo (Concerto by Philip Sparke), transpositions, clarke tech studies, Charlier etudes, Arbans etudes, orchestral excerpts, lip flexibilites, sight reading, and ear training exercises for the trumpet. Really gunna go full out on this for the next month to get back in shape for school. I AM GUNNA MAKE THE CAVALIERS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS NEXT SUMMER GODDAMIT!
So anyway...August is going to busy in itself. The fist week and a half I'm playing the musical, then Sterling Heights High School pre-camp starts and the following week is their band camp in Lexington, MI. It's gunna be a blast this year. Their show is Aerosmith. Then the following week is Frasers band camp (Classic Rock show). The week after that I have to get all the folders done for concert band and wind symphony at wayne and then the following tuesday classes start.
I'm taking 21 credits this semester is gunna be LOOOOONG! But I know I can handle it. I'm taking Orchestration-Bianchi, History 3-Conway, Jazz History-Collins, Jazz Improv-Miller, Jazz Arranging 1-Collins, Conducting 1-Bianchi, Jazz Lessons-Jennings, Voice Class-Brockington, Wind Symphony-Bianchi, Jazz Piano-Michaels, and Jazz Lab 1-Collins. I think that's it!
My professors are fucking awesome too. Let me explain:
Collins: Doc Severinson calls him when he wants to go on tour. Has 2 cds and just finished a world tour.
Michaels: Barbera Streisands 1st vocal couch and wrote her songs for the tonight show.
Miller: Played with Dizzy Gillespie and God knows who else.
Conway: Pianist for the Detroit Symphony.
Bianchi: Just a fucking great educator. No one else like him in the world. Oh and toured Bulgaria conducting all their major symphonies!
Jennings: Johnny Trudel's lead trumpet, plays the shows at the Fox and Masonic Temple.
Brockington: Only women to ever perform on the main steeple of the Vatican. Has chatted with Pope John Paul II on a couple occasions.
Now isn't that fucking awesome! And they're all great people and wonderful to learn from!
Anyways I guess that's it for now. I should get to bed. I gotta go down to WSU again tomorrow for more work! BLAH!
