London Loves...

Just back from a fantastic weekend in the capital, it was fairly epic. I will try to summarise the most epic qualities of the trip:

1. WHITE MISCHIEF. I love to dress up, and this thing is like a festival to the gods of dress-up. My costume was effectively a bug-net idea with mushrooms printed onto a net skirt, butterflies sewn on to the outer layers, all held together with a gold corset. typhonatemybaby  made
cobweb_diamond  a lovely headdress out of copper wire, but she was already planning on wearing her pill-box hat to go with her whoreticia dress, so I nicked it. I have to say, it rounded off my fairy look quite neatly, though it almost didn't survive The Correspondents. Highlights of the night were:
gossamer_tune  coming out in just a waistcoat and trousers and being promptly told to go put something on, for godssake, and him sheepishly going and doing just that; The Correspondents and all their wonderful swing-hop glory...oh the dancing...oh the hottness...me and gav almost went into spasms of squee whenever he came near us, its a wonder he didnt notice our looks of fan-girl adoration and run a mile; the Covent Garden chainsaw man doing a strip tease and then juggling a chainsaw in a red pleather thong. Not bad. All in all, it was a wonderful night. Everyone looked fantastic, and I was especially jealous of the drag-king who was in front of us all night. I think gavia wants to marry her and have her babies. Which would be fair.
shirley_1989  also looked quite wonderful, and while it would be hard to beat Tim in sharp dressing stakes, I felt he looked pretty nifty. Though I am probably biased, as I helped make the costume.

2. Mojitos! Rummy and delicious! Combine with Candy Cakes for instant HAPPY!  >_<

3. Tom's flatmates, all of whom make you feel like an inadequate person for not living your life to the full and fulfilling potential and all that jazz. Ed makes every kind of preserve under the sun, and beer, and liqueur, and bagels aaaaaaand he plays every instrument known to man. He then performs these instruments to old ladies and makes album covers on his computer. He is super lovely and grows his own vegetables. Then there is Ash, brother of Ed, who is a student at the Royal Ballet School. In his spare time Ash takes photographs of pretty things and keeps giant millipedes. He also looks like an anime boy, and is just as lovely as Ed. They are like the Wunderkind. I just don't understand where they find the time to breathe in amongst all their activities. There was also Anthony, who is a musician and makes money from his music, and who will probably be very successful and famous in years to come. It really is depressing sitting about with these guys. Really puts all your wasted time in perspective. For instance, instead of being on Lj, I could be distilling rose hips into a brandy. Why am I not distilling??? Where is my drive????

Failerson.

4. Going to Wilton's music hall to watch The Kid with gavia's friend Grace in tow. I do really like Charlie Chaplin, but mainly because he livened up my Am Hist tutorial when we did the Red Scare. I have watched home videos of him at Hirst Castle, being all delinquenty and caddish. I had never actually seen one of his films, and I was pleasantly surprised by how surreal and funny it was. It is odd to watch things in silence, and especially when it is slapstick comedy, as that isn't really around much any more. Thrashing the guys at Trivial Pursuit and In Speaquence was also quite good fun. Women seem to be far better at anticipating each other's thoughts...TEABAG!

5. All the myriads of food and baclava in the area around Tom's. I would get so incredibly huge and yet very happy, if I lived amongst all that stuff. We went to this one place that had these little semolina dough balls, and when you bit into them it was literally a sugar explosion. I got a headache from eating half of one of those damned little things. I brought Euan back some and he ate like five in a night. And didn't collapse. Mad...

6. Strictly Ballroom is one of the best films on the planet.

That's all there is to say really.

It was an excellent holiday...and I miss Gavia! Ah soon, soon the summer will properly commence and you shall all live with us....

kisses.
