For Patricia and anyone else unfortunate enough to not know who Gabriel Macht is...

So. Dear mcgooglykins apparently doesn't know who Gabriel Macht is and I could not let such a situation stand so I am seeking to educate her and you, dear reader, in the process.

Gabriel Macht is an actor with some of the most expressive and lovely brown eyes I've ever come across.

I first saw him in a film called American Outlaws about Jesse James mostly in which he played Frank, Jesse's older brother. The film co-stars Colin Farrell, Timothy Dalton and Scott Caan (SCOTT CAAN PATRICIA. SCOTT. CAAN. - incidently this was the first thing I saw Scott in as well)

This is the boys being badass cowboys - from l-r Scott Caan, Colin Farrell and Gabriel Macht.
In American Outlaws Gabriel Macht is a cowboy who reads Shakespeare and is Farrell's brother and Caan's cousin and all round most amazing member of the James-Younger gang, helping Jesse write letters to his sweetheart, quoting from Love's Labours Lost in that adorable Missouri accent, with all the charm of a proper southern gentleman at the same time as being the best sharp shooter the army had. And he has a beard, a great hat and he wears waistcoats.

Ok, then it was The Recruit - I admit at this point I was possibly more interested in Colin Farrell than I was in Gabriel Macht, but I have since learnt the error of my ways.

The plot is all CIA, betrayal, who can you trust? I don't know, don't talk to anyone, Al Pacino is really not that attractive any more. It looks pretty dated and I watched a long time ago so the details are fuzzy but what I do remember is that, even if I was going through a Colin Farrell phase, Gabriel Macht was the best thing about this film.

Next I saw him in Because I Said So which was a pleasant surprise because I was watching on tv whilst babysitting and wasn't expecting much when BOOM - boho musician Macht.

Again, with the waistcoats. He plays Johnny a musician with a kid and one of two options for Mandy Moore's character to end up with. *spoiler* OBVIOUSLY. OBVIOUSLY SHE ENDS UP WITH HIM. QUITE APART FROM THE FACT THE OTHER GUY IS AN UPTIGHT DOUCHE, HE IS GABRIEL MACHT AND HE IS ADORABLE.

The film itself is flawed and full of cliches with the odd funny moment, but Mr Macht is definitely one of the high points (if not the high point...) and frankly it's worth watching for his sweetness, smile and how good he is with kids. Also he wears a hat, again.

Then A Love Song For Bobby Long a film about slow life in New Orleans and what happens when estranged Scarlett Johansson misses her mother's funeral and returns home to find two guys living in her mother's house - John Travolta (who was actually amazing) and Gabriel Macht.

Our Mr Macht plays Lawson Pines - a writer, struggling to write Bobby Long's (Travolta) life story, and drinking too much in the mean time. Don't let the poster fool you, he is just as important as either Johansson or Travolta, a quite steady and constant presence throughout the film.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this film, which I only recently watched and only because I knew it had Gabriel in - I am that shallow. So I wasn't expecting much, but it has great aesthetics, a fantastic soundtrack including a couple of songs sung be Travolta in a very casual manner while strumming a guitar, great performances, Scarlett Johansson isn't annoying and Gabriel Macht is, of course, outstanding.

A cynic could say the story is overly sentimental, but I actually didn't find it like that and I can be incredibly cynical, I think this was down to fine acting and good writing. Give it a go - the slow southern pace is appealing, the guitars and New Orleans music scene is well represented and it's gently heartbreaking with many a great quote from literature thrown into the mix by either Lawson or Bobby.

More recently he donned a cape, or tie at least, in The Spirit.

It has all the style and sass of Sin City as well as an awesome film noir, private eye style voice over by Macht's character spirit.
It's all about shady pasts, present arch-nemesises, manpain and existential crises while showing of a delightfully oversaturated and contrasted chest and searching for the perfect red tie.

If you want some snappy, tongue in cheek dialogue and some great shots of Gabriel Macht, watch it.

On a slightly unrelated but completely adorable note, this is a picture of Gabriel Macht at The Spirit premiere with a rubber duck dressed up as Spirit:

Next is Whiteout.

Technically I haven't seen this yet, but it has Gabriel Macht and Alex O'Loughlin in (O'LOUGHLIN, PATRICIA. O'LOUGHLIN) so it's really a matter of time and I have, thanks to my obsessive nature, seen several interviews with them regarding said film. They make quite a team. A very good looking adorable team.

Gabriel plays Robert Pryce.

There's a hell of a lot of snow, it's bloody cold, there's a serial killer or something, Kate Beckinsale is in it but she's neither a vampire nor Emma so who knows what she's doing, they might well all die and I'm pretty sure O'Loughlin's full frontal in there at some point. Also they're all bundled up in hats and fleeces and layers and it's adorable. And there's a lot of torch work.

Er. Gratuitous ruffled and rumpled O'Loughlin...

Right now, Gabriel Macht is in Suits a tv series in which he plays top lawyer Harvey Specter who hires Mike Ross though he didn't attend Harvard and lies to his boss (the amazing Gina Torres) about it.

It may well sound like another legal procedural show, but there's a lot more to Suits than that. There are great characters, amazing story telling and some fantastic one liners:

Mike: So does that make us a team now?
Harvey: I wouldn't move my things into Wayne Manor just yet.

The character of Harvey is a hard one to play because, frankly, he's an ass. The thing is, he has to be a charming ass. Unsurprisingly Gabriel Macht pulls this off with the same ease in which he strolls about in his well cut three piece suits and he looks damn good in them. Also I feel that deep down there's a squishy marshmallowy part of him that is an absolute giant dork. He has layers.

Also he does these incredibly dramatic and sarcastic eye rolls.

There's still loads of his stuff I have yet to see - Love and Other Drugs (Trey Hannigan), The Good Shepherd (John Russel. Jr.), Bad Company (Officer Seale), Behind Enemy Lines (Stackhouse) - to name but a few and he was also in an episode of Sex and the City as someone called Barkley and in an episode Spin City, his credit intriguingly named "Naked Guy".

Basically, I recommend you watch anything with this man in - even if the film/tv show itself is shit, his performance is always worth watching.

Also, he's married and has babies and wears hats in real life as well - I'm not posting any pics of this because it's a little stalkery, a man needs privacy for his hats, but it's true, he's all round amazing.

So, Patricia, and all others unfortunate enough never to have encountered this man before, this is Gabriel Macht.

I'm going to go watch Whiteout now...

scarlett johansson, whiteout, because i said so, bad company, john travolta, alex o'loughlin, the recruit, the good shepherd, sex and the city, the spirit, gabriel macht, behind enemy lines, kate beckinsale, colin farrell, a love song for bobby long, spin city, american outlaws, scott caan, love and other drugs, suits
