[Kamui really doesn't have any of those nervous tics. After all, he's been waiting almost nine months for something to happen. And a really big one too. It's not like he cant feel excitement or impatience... He just refuses to let those things to get to him.

Things will come in their own time. Meanwhile, he has a lot of things to occupy himself with. The sounds of footsteps all around, and some chatter here and there, and well... the smell. Of people, of things, and even coffee elsewhere (guh, the bitter thing).

He pushes off the wall, standing up straight when he hears the doorknob turn. Puts on a charming smile.

As always.]

[ The headmaster's smile isn't charming, but it is quite inviting. ]

You're our second offworlder by the name of "Kamui." You'll have to tell me about what the name means! Step inside, won't you?

[He's here? He's here? He's here? So many variations, but they all mean the same thing in the end. Kamui's here.

... Or maybe another Kamui. But that may be unlikely, because the name is a very rare one. No one names their child like that. He needs to make sure it's him, and no one else.

That still doesn't keep him from feeling a little excitement at seeing his (most important person) counterpart though. And maybe a little more. But he knows he has to contain himself, because it's not good. They're not in Tokyo anymore, and so there's nothing that will come from any of their fights. Nothing at all.

Kamui takes a breath to calm himself before following the headmaster. Good thing his sunglasses and height can keep people from seeing his eyes. It wont do if this man's accidentally seen them turn to cat-like slits for a few seconds.]

It depends on how people mean it to be.

[His English, at least, is still decent. With an accent, but that comes with being a foreigner. Why he didn't take a translator is simply due to pride.]

Is that so? Names tend to have single origins in our world. Why don't you tell me a bit more about where you're from?

[ Cid settles himself into his chair and smiles, inviting the applicant to have a seat in the chair across from him. ]

[He bows his head a little, before sitting down on that chair.

Explaining the situation at home will be more of a chore than anything else, but he still does it with good grace, stumbling over his "l"'s aside.]

It's different. Modern, but not like this. [He waves a hand around, indicating he means Garden itself.] Our technology is different.

[Kamui's not exactly sure what kind of literary genre could best describe this. Not that he bothers to read fiction books.]

But there are hardly any trees in the cities.

Ahh, very sad, that lack of flora. Is it a peaceful place, despite that?

[He shakes his head.] Since spring, there have been earthquakes. But it was before that.

[Or as the news deems fit to call them. He knows the truth. He and a few other select people know what exactly is going on.]

But I haven't been home for a long time.

That's right! You are one of the applicants who has traveled to other "worlds" after leaving his home. Other than ours, I mean.

Tell me all about that, then, won't you?

[He bites his lower lip, trying not to laugh or smile, and simply shakes his head as he remembers what happened back there, and thinks of how to make up a description of a world that's not his own.]

They don't treat foreigners well. And wars are everywhere, it seems.

[He points at his neck.] They placed collars on us when we came, to keep our powers locked. ["Sealed", he would have said, but it would just have come out sounding like "seared".]

But I met people, and that helped.

Indeed, allies are a most important asset when faced with uncertainty.

[ Cid's hands wiggle into his desk drawers and retrieve a roll of jelly candies. He offers one to this Kamui. ]

I'm afraid you'll find that our world also has its inhospitable citizens. They've been terrorized, you see, by the threats and tyranny of very powerful people we know as sorceresses. It appears that those who can utilize magic naturally are very common in worlds other than ours! But here, many people are wary of the extraordinary.

Thank you.

[As a teenager with a sweet tooth, it's only natural that he accepts it with genuine pleasure and eats it.]

I have to remember not to be a show-off then. But no such thing as magic in Tokyo.

[They cant call it magic-- it's different for everyone else. Obviously he doesn't know how the onmyouji do it, or how the monks and miko come into their power, but he knows for sure what his is, and it's not magic. It doesn't even have a name that's easily understandable by normal human beings. Or sorceresses. Or anyone else.

It just is. Right there, for him to tap into when he needs it, and never requires something for him to be able to use it.]

There's something else, but comes from the inside.

[He figures he needs to be truthful about his powers, enough to let it pass when he actually lets them out one of these days. He knows that people are simply paranoid by nature, and he wants things to clear out first.]

Ahh, yes a natural power beyond the physical. That would be considered sorcery here.

[ Cid chews a candy himself. ]

We've a lot of new cadets now with such innate abilities, thanks to the Time Compression which has brought people from other worlds... I'm sure that we will eventually find a way to send you all back from whence you've come to us, but for now, it can't hurt to learn, can it?

[ He takes out his memopad and scrawls out his signature. ]

If you take this to the registrar, they'll finish your processing and get you settled in.

I'll learn how the people here work soon enough, sir.

[Kamui takes the piece of paper, stands and inclines his head. Enough to be polite, but not enough that he has to bow low to the man.] Thank you very much.
