tobacco lit,
smoky clouds
shadow overhead,
nicorette patch
ingrained in skin;

an uneasy path
to the goal,
many cold nights
yearning for heat--
one light;

flesh burning
on new year's resolutions
and cigarette butts,
a final end
to torturous days.
