“Finally Potter! I thought I was going to end up eating dinner alone.” Draco leaned forward to kiss Harry alone, but Harry stepped back.
“I brought someone else along today. Draco, this is Albus Severus.”
A small shy looking boy peeked out from behind his father. The child was the spitting image of Harry, from his messy hair to his striking green eyes. Draco smiled at him and dropped down until he was eye level with him.
“Hello Albus Severus, I’m Draco. I have a son your age. His name is Scorpius and he’s up in his room right now playing. He has plenty of toys to share, would you like to go play with him?”
Albus looked up at his father for reassurance. Harry nodded at him and Albus copied the motion, only more excitedly. He took Draco’s proffered hand and bounced along as Draco led him to Scorpius’ room.
“Scorpius, I have someone here to play with you.” Draco announced, pulling
Albus into the room.
“This is Albus Severus. I want you to share your toys with him for a while ok?” Scorpius agreed with his father and then he was alone with the other boy.
“You can call me Al if you want.” Al said softly.
“Ok Al. I like to be called Scorp but my father doesn’t like it.” Scorpius grinned at Al.
Al returned the smile and walked further into the room. He sat down on the floor next to the blonde boy and began playing with the train beside him.
“My dad said that your dad was his friend, but I’ve never seen him before.” Al told Scorpius quietly.
“My father told me something similar. He also waited until mother left before setting up for dinner.” Scorpius shrugged and went back to his toys. The two children played in harmony for a while until a loud bang down stairs caused them both to jump.
Scorpius raised a curious eyebrow then stood. He motioned for Al to follow him quietly and they crept down the stairs. Together the stuck their heads into the sitting room.
“I’m sorry about your vase Draco; I haven’t done that in years!” Harry cried, pulling his wand out to repair the mess.
“That’s not why I’m mad, Harry. You said she is turning your children on you! That evil bitch has made your oldest son hate you! You have every right to be upset!” Draco shouted then ran a hand through his hair and resumed pacing.
The vase repaired itself and flew back onto the mantle. Harry watched it go before collapsing onto the floor. Draco sighed and rushed towards him. Tears were spilling from under Harry’s closed eyelids and his lips were being bit viciously in an attempt at silence.
“Harry, I’m sorry I shouted. It just makes me so angry that she’s hurting you so much.” Draco scooped the other man into his arms and held him tight.
“They just left today. Ginny announced that she and James were going shopping and she left. Lily is with Hermione right now and I didn’t know what else to do. I had to see you.” Harry gasped, still trying to hold in his sobbing.
“You and your children are always welcome here Harry, you know that.”
“I’m just worried that I’m ruining everything, ya know? Maybe I was supposed to stay miserable with her. I’m putting myself over my own children! I’m a terrible father!” Harry cried and then his resolve broke. Wrenching sobs racked his body as he clawed himself closer to his lover. Draco held him as close as he could, his own eyes streaming with silent tears.
“Harry, you are an amazing father. This is not your fault. She is the one hurting your children and you. Do you remember when I found you six years ago? You were hurting then, she was smothering you with her anger. You aren’t doing anything wrong.” Draco soothed.
“I’m committing adultery, but I’m not doing anything wrong?” Harry asked bitterly.
“No, you’re not. We love each other Harry. That is important.”
“I’m sorry, it’s just so much.” Harry whispered, kissing Draco’s neck.
“I know it is. That’s why I’m trying to help you. We are not alone in this. We are both married men with children. But you Harry, are the one I love. I’ve lost you once already this lifetime; I’m not doing it again.”
“God, I’m acting so stupid. I love you too.” Harry sighed, giving in and kissing his lover.
Scorpius pulled Al away from the sitting room while their fathers kissed. Cool grey eyes assessed him until Al couldn’t stand the scrunity any longer.
“What?”
“Are you going to tell?” Scorpius asked.
“No! My dad is right. My mum has been really mean to him and so has James.”
“I’m not going to tell my mother either.” Scorpius said solemnly.
“I’m not even going to tell her that I have a new best friend. I don’t want dad to get into trouble.”
“New best friend?” The blonde raised one perfect eyebrow.
“Yes. You’ll be my best friend, right?”Albus asked anxiously.
“Of course. Now come on, I don’t want to get caught down here.” Scorpius led them back to his room. They’d barely begun to play when their fathers came up to get them.
Harry’s eyes were still red but he was smiling at his son playing with Draco’s.
“Al we need to get home but I promise I’ll bring you back to play with Scorpius again.” Harry reached out for his son and Al stood to take his hand. The boys pretended they didn’t see Harry’s relief at the simple gesture.
After everyone said goodbye Scorpius turned to return to his room.
“Wait son, I need to talk to you.” Draco said. Scorpius turned back to his father then followed him into the sitting room.
“How long were you down here?”
Scorpius felt his eyes go wide before he could stop the reaction.
“Father what are you…”
“Scorpius, I asked you a question and I want the answer.”
“We heard the vase break and we came down to investigate. We already promised each other not to tell. Al said he’s seen his mum be mean to his dad and he doesn’t want him in trouble.”
“That’s a very mature decision for two boys of eight. Draco, you should know that your mother already knows about Harry. I don’t want you to feel like you have to keep my secrets.”
“Mother doesn’t care?” Scorpius asked, coking his head to the side in confusion.
“No Scorpius. We were an arranged marriage. Your grandmother wanted me to wed before she left for France and she found me a nice pureblood girl to marry. I do care for your mother but it isn’t the type of caring to base a marriage on. I wanted to tell you all this when you were older, but things change.” Draco sighed, flopping into a chair.
Scorpius watched his father in amazement. He’d never seen his father behave in such an undignified way before. His father, while very nice and loving, constantly acted as if someone was watching him. Scorpius figured it had something to do with his grandmother moving away and his grandfather in jail.
“Are you upset by this, Scorpius?”
“No father. Actually I’m fine. Albus is my friend and Mr. Potter is yours.”
Scorpius watched as a smile spread across his father face.
“You can call him Harry if you want. Now go on to your room before I get anymore soppy on you.”
“Yes father.” Scorpius said respectfully but Draco could see the laughter in his son’s eyes.
“Oh and Scorpius, if you pick up any of his more Gryffindor traits, I will have to disown you.”
Draco heard Scorpius’ laughter echo in the hall and he smi
