Courtney Love: the real story by Poppy Z. Brite

I picked this book out for the sole reason that Brite wrote it and I like seeing the style's she's capable of. I like Hole, I respect Love's fuck-you attitude, but I've never been overly interested in the intimate details of her life. After reading it though, I have a completely different perspective of who she is and what she's gone through. Kudos to anyone who crawls out of the muck by her nails with a foot on her face and can thrive afterwards (okay- so a mammoth trust fund might have helped her along...)

And hey look- her new cd is called Mono. It is fate, non?

I can't figure out what everyone has against her. She's intelligent, she speaks her mind, she doesn't break under the pressure. All these qualities in a male musician are praised, cheered, and laughed over- even encoureged But because she has a strong personality, she's a slut, bitch, whore, druggie? Mmhm. I see. Hear me rawr, I wish I had half her gumption.

If you can't tell, I'm addicted to extreme personalities. It's gotten me into trouble, but I still can't help loving the polar opposites. I want to dig into the quiet ones and hear what they're thinking, and I want to hang on to the wild ones and help cause trouble.

Any way, she's a wild one and her life gives you a few things to think over at least.
