MAMA 2009

Well, I didn't actually realise that the MAMA (Mnet Asia Music Awards?) was being held today. I guess I didn't really care because all my favourite artistes (i.e. SM Family) would be boycotting it anyway, due to SM's lack of trust in the system they use for deciding the winners.

I'm not happy about it.

And then the three members from DBSK who are feuding with SM, Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu went to accept this Best Asia Representative award that DBSK won, ON BEHALF OF DBSK. It's not that I don't support them, but logically if SM still owns the rights to the group DBSK, then the three of them oughtn't have done that, right? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I don't want them to get sued any further!

Besides that, I had some failure trying to vote for the idols on the Mnet website, and then the article at allkpop said that one of the reasons SM was boycotting is because they felt that fans shouldn't have to pay to vote. So I guess I would have needed to pay in order to cast my vote in as well.

I just went to take a look at the online voting where they show the percentages and stuff, and it seems that for fans votes, Super Junior had the most votes for Best Male Group, Mobile Popularity Award (SNSD got 2nd), CGV Popularity Award, Overseas Viewer Award (SNSD got 3rd); SNSD for Best Female Group, Best Dance Music(Gee, while Sorry Sorry was 2nd); and f(x) for Best Female Newcomer.

And I don't know how much votes count for, except stuff like OVA which I think is practically totally dependent on votes. So SuJu won some awards, but wasn't even there to accept it. I wonder if the SM groups would not have won the more major awards since SM was boycotting? Like if they were pulled out of the running or anything.

Call me biased, but how can Kara's Honey win best Dance? It had only 8% of votes on that website! Sorry Sorry should totally have won!! Even Abracadabra had a more interesting dance! Okay, I'm ultra biased.

I also don't like 2NE1's I Don't Care (nothing against the group, they're pretty cool) but I remember it being very popular, so it makes sense that it won Best Song? I would agree with them winning Best Female Newcomer.

And though I REALLY wanted SuJu to win Best Album, I believe there were some statistics showing that G-Dragon's Heartbreaker sold tonnes of copies, which I'm sure they have to take into account when deciding the winner. His popularity must really be overwhelming!

And I guess 2PM was really active throughout the year, being on every show imaginable, and promoting lots of songs, and being very popular, so they won Artist of the Year. I see having scandals such as their leadja leaving doesn't affect the results.

It rankles, though, because naturally I'd want Super Junior to win everything. On a side note, DBSK practically knocked themselves out of the running after spending so long in Japan, IMHO. WHY??? I was dying for them to really COMEBACK and start winning everything, like in 2005 and 2006!!!

Also, I bet f(x) couldn't POSSIBLY have won Best Newcomer, I mean, they debuted like 10 weeks ago? Compared to 2NE1 in March 2009, I doubt they had a chance, even with more online votes. This is reminiscent of DBSK's comeback in late September in 2008 - no time for many activities before MKMF Awards/ hopping back to Japan. Why does SM DO THIS?

And wasn't SHINee in the running for anything? They've been doing all this Juliette and Year of Us stuff, and appearing on plenty of shows!

2009 sucks, officially. Maybe there'll be other award shows. I vaguely remember the Golden Disk Awards and Melon Awards.

big bang, dbsk, snsd, super junior
