“Does anyone know where Hyukjae and Donghae are?” Jungsu asked, though no one seemed to pay him any attention, as they were all running around doing something or other.

“Didn’t they go out to buy some of the foodstuff?” Kibum passed by him carrying a stack of paper plates in one hand, and plastic cups in the other, walking through the wall to the next room.

“Exactly, they should have been back by now. How are we supposed to start without the meat?” Jungsu was beginning to regret having given this important task to the two of them.

Ryeowook glanced out of the window. “They’re just walking up the road now; give it five minutes or so.” As he hurried into the busy kitchen, Jungsu sighed, and went off to give Yunho a hand with the table he was carrying. Considering just how far away Ryeowook could see, combined with his poor sense of estimation, they’d probably take at least ten minutes to arrive.

Kyuhyun hadn’t anything to do, as he’d just come home, and was about to walk into the kitchen to offer his help when Yoochun pulled him back. “What are you-”

Yoochun cut him off. “I wouldn’t go in if I were you. Jaejoong hyung gets a bit…temperamental about his kitchen. He only lets people like Hankyung hyung in there.” Kyuhyun hurriedly backed away. No one liked to be on the receiving end of Jaejoong’s wrath.

Jungsu came back in and his eyes brightened when he saw Kyuhyun. “There you are! You can go help Youngwoon set up the sound system. And I wish Donghae and Hyukjae would hurry up- oh!” He nearly fell back when Changmin appeared in front of them with two large grocery bags.

“They were taking too long, so I popped over to get it from them.”Jungsu smiled at him gratefully. Yoochun relieved Changmin of one bag, and they trooped off to leave the meat in the kitchen for marinating.

Junsu and Yunho were almost done with the decorations in the garden when Hyukjae and Donghae finally reached back. “Yah, Lee Hyukjae! Did you slow down or something? We’ve practically done everything without you!” The runner just stuck his tongue out at Junsu, unable to think of a witty comeback on the spot.

“Where’s Siwonnie?” Donghae asked, handing a shopping bag to Heechul.

“He’s buying the big present, the one from all of us.” Kibum reminded him, laying the table meticulously.

Then Sungmin came round bearing plates of food. “What are you all standing around here for? Go and take out the rest of the food!” He ordered, setting his pumpkin pie carefully down on the table.

As the boys dutifully carried everything out, Ryeowook came running to them. “Donghee hyung’s almost here! I think Jongwoon hyung’s trying to slow him down, but...”

Jungsu looked around critically at the decorated garden. “I think we’re just about done, so it should be fine.”

“But Siwon’s not back yet.” Han Geng said, after scanning the area.

Jaejoong concentrated on Siwon’s mind for a while. “He says he’s at the main road already.” Changmin nodded and disappeared, reappearing with a tired-looking Siwon in tow in less than half a minute.

Donghee and Jongwoon arrived back home from watching a soccer game. Donghee was wondering why Jongwoon seemed to be talking nonstop about how they ought to slow down and appreciate the iron gates of their house. If it had been anyone else but Jongwoon, Donghee would have found it very strange, but then again, Jongwoon was strange on a regular basis.

Then Jongwoon smoothly steered Donghee in the direction of his precious garden, only to be greeted by a shout of “HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONGHEE!” from the other 17 boys, as Youngwoon and Yunho let loose a series of party poppers, spreading confetti everywhere in the air.

Donghee was at a loss for words, and settled for grinning as broadly as possible, as they burst into an obviously rehearsed rendition of Happy Birthday, ending in a lovely chord. As they seated him at the head of the table, Heechul lit the barbecue flame with a flick of his hand, and in no time at all they were feasting on a huge spread of food, ranging from junk food to ddeokbokki.

Just when they thought they could eat no more, Jaejoong brought out a marvellous cake with candles that Heechul easily lit up. More cheering ensued as Donghee blew them out at one go, and Siwon pushed a large present towards him.

Opening it carefully, Shindong saw an entire set of brand new gardening tools, along with an expensive-looking book on horticulture. Sungmin had noticed that his old ones were in poor condition, and suggested they buy a new set for him.

He received many other presents, including a set of new dance music CDs, a shirt with messages written on it, and even a redeemable coupon from Yunho for good weather, but none more precious than this family he’d come to love.

This was kind of cheesy and boring - I wrote it long ago when my writing skillz were less honed :) It's still kind of a feel-good fic, though, in my opinion.

Comments are greatly appreciated!
