20 Kisses (1)

Dec 23, 2009 23:17

This is just the start of something new. I'm not sure where it's going or what I'm going to do with it. For now, I'm just playing around with it. I may post it up here or we may post it up at Two to Write. And there's always the possibility of saving it for publication. But for now...

“Why won’t you just leave me alone?” I asked, turning to face him. This was the tenth time this month that he had asked me out.

“Because I’m not ready to give up just yet,” he replied with a smile.

“Do you get enjoyment out of being turned down every time you ask?” I watched his face for a sign of emotion. There was none. “You do realize that the more you annoy me, the more I am going to say no, right?”

“I’m not so sure about that,” he replied, showing a bit of confidence, which was unusual for him.

“You think I’m going to say yes one day?” I asked, ready to refute his response.

“Yes,” he said. “I think you are going to say yes one day to get me off of your back. You are going to realize that the sooner you say yes, then sooner you’ll shut me up for good.”

“You must be dreaming,” I responded, but it was too late. He had already walked away from me. I wasn’t sure why, but Evan had been fascinated with me since the fifth grade. There had probably been a dozen dance invitations a year and numerous unwanted displays of affection a month. It was as though he gained enjoyment from listening to me say no.
