He Alone Suffers So Deeply
It was wonderful to laugh again.
With the city sparkling and new around them, they could almost forget the horrors of the past day. It had been so long since any of them had heard each other’s laughter. It was therapeutic, healing for the parts of their souls they once thought might be irreparably broken, and it seemed to be catching. Even Matrix let out a chuckle, and AndrAIa squeezed his hand; she hadn’t heard a real laugh from him since before they lost that game.
There was still the looming threat of Daemon to deal with, but that would come sooner than they would want, and they knew it. For now, they laughed, reveling in their survival. And each one of them bottled the sound of it inside, so that the next time it was lost they still had the memory to hold fast to until they found it again.
