Something had been burnt. He could smell it, like what's left after a campfire. Tensing, Bobby opened the door to his room and just stood there.
A breeze licked at the papers under the parcel sitting on his desk. Closing the door, he crossed the room and picked up the note, the handwriting familiar.
"Drake, here's your shirt back. Sorry 'bout the hole. Just wanted to say thanks. You should know what for. It was never personal."
No signature but he knew who it was from. He'd waited for something from John for six months. Just didn't expect a goodbye.
