So I let a local friend read the first third of my NaNo which is essentially (to quote my NaNo website summary) "the story of a fallen angel and his path to redemption that is found in his love for a human man. It is, at its heart, a gay romance novel, but with some drama and supernatural twists thrown in for good measure".

Now the reason I let said friend read this is because she is a huge fan of angels and demons and the arcane and is someone I met in a local writers group. I should have known there was going to be a problem because she quotes Supernatural all the time and wears all sorts of Twilight t-shirts, not that there is anything wrong with either of those things, but they should have clued me into her mindset a little. And for the record she's 30- not a kid.

We're having a little bit of a ::cough:: disagreement because my angel/fallen angel/demon lore doesn't jive with her angel/demon lore, which is lifted directly from Supernatural. She steadfastly believes that Supernatural gets all of its lore absolutely correct. Now I just finished watching season 3 of Supernatural and I'm enjoying the show very much and I think they have their own flare for the interpretation of unearthly lore, but it's not the end all.

I've done extensive research on on the whole angel/demon mythos and there are vast differences in interpretation depending on the source and I've used various pieces to create my own workable lore for my novel.

I guess I'm just annoyed that someone is being exceptional critical of my fictional interpretation of a mythos because it doesn't follow another fictional interpretation of that mythos to the letter.

If I wanted to copy Supernatural I would just write fanfic, but my NaNo is all my own. I just don't know how to get that through to this person.

Ugh. Not a way to start the weekend.
