“Did you hear that?” Jimmy’s looking out the window, feet bare and hair wild. His elbow’s sticking through a hole in one pajama sleeve, pale in the moonlight, and Amelia thinks for a moment that she’s still dreaming.
“There was thunder or something, really close.” The sky’s clear but Jimmy stays there, the curtain bunched up in his fists.
“Come back to bed, honey.” Amelia smiles, pats his cooling pillow. Wait until morning, her eyes say, and he chuckles as he wraps himself back against her.
The thunder rolls on. Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy it says and he closes his eyes.
