Author's Notes:
anteka said she wanted people to tell her why they liked this episode. What I wrote in response is actually what may very well be my Supernatural Fan Manifesto.
Things Remembered Store Here's the thing. For me, this episode is what this show IS.
It's about Dean being part horny teenager, part annoying older brother, and part guns-blazing hero type. It's about Sam being part shy dork, part super-sensitive guy, part man on a mission to save everyone/everything, and even him being part killer. It's about laughing and brotherly banter. It's about potential glimpses into the world of Normal in amongst the craziness of their lives. It's about beautiful boys and even a love interest here or there. It's about hunting intriguing supernatural creatures. It's about not saving everyone. It's about making hard choices. It's about moral ambiguity. It's about fun and angst and love between brothers and caring for innocents and moments when they think they've won and moments when they know they've lost. It's about the way life takes you up to the top of the mountain and shows you a sunset like nothing painters could ever capture. And it's about tripping on your way back down the trail and crashing down and down until you've broken things and you're not sure if you'll make it to see sunrise again.
It's about everything, gritty, real, fast, hard, and pretty damn entertaining.
That's why I loved this episode and that's why I love this show.
