"Can we trade places?"

Sure! Just for a while, though :D I learned the hard way that no matter what, I'm not able to live too long without breathing the Aegean sea. It's almost pathetic ^^

"…I was listening to Sezen Aksu."

O_o Sorry, this one really surprised me. I didn’t know she was an international singer. Or maybe she really isn’t but somehow you discovered her albums :) Well, she went too arabesque for my liking at some point but I like her nonetheless (and her craziness) and she’s treated like a queen here.

"I keep trying to tell my husband we need to make Turkey our next trip."

Ooh, that’s great! Just a couple days ago, I was surfing the net in hopes of finding some travel blogs about Africa (it’s my new obbsession now) and somehow found myself reading an American’s blog about his trip to Turkey. I liked to read his POV and it was very different than the other “shish kebab is good, belly dancers are gooood” kind of statements, LOL. He talks about people, politics, religion etc. So if you’re ever interested, here is the link. He only stayed in Istanbul, though.

*hugs back*

--- Oh, I totally can understand that. I would miss the Atlantic, except it smells like a fish that's been left in the sun too long. A very, very old fish....

;) Savannah is beautiful - historic, old southern charm down here, and Hilton Head does have resorts and fabbulous beaches....

But I'll still trade. Oh yes. ;)

I bought Sezen Aksu's cd "Deliveren" a few years back - along with Tarkan's latest cd at that time. I really don't have a ton of exposure to Turkish music - just some halay and those two, but I've really liked what I've heard so far. I mostly listen to Arabic and Persian music - along with Hindi and Tamil - but have been wanting to find some good Turkish cds. Can you recommend some to me? I'm a fan of the arabesque sound as well as the non-arabesque. :)

Thanks for the blog link. Very cool! Am checking it out.

Africa sounds fabulous. What parts are you most interested in visiting?

*squishes* Take care, love!

LOL! You know, the Izmir bay here used to smell very very bad too and people who came to visit to Izmir would say: “Oh my, this sea stinks!” and because I didn’t know any other kind of sea smell I would very proudly reply: “No, this is the smell of the sea.” Thankfully, it’s cleaned now. (And oh my, I just realized that I sound like an old lady! Telling stories in every chance and all... *is very frightened*)

Oh, and Savannah is in Georgia, right? I can’t say that I know a lot about Georgia other than catching some sights in movies. Most remarkably in “Fried Green Tomatoes” and thinking that it’s a very lovely, cozy place. Of course, I’m not really sure if what I see is really what it’s like. Can I trust Hollywood? :)

Well, about Africa… I’m not really sure what parts I’d like to see the most but I like seeing people, how they live, what they do in their daily life rather as much as seeing different sights. And the first names that pop in my head are Sierra Leone, Congo and South Africa.

"Can you recommend some to me?"

Now this is the question why it took so long for me to reply to your post. I was typing this yesterday, then I realized that I got carried away and it was turning out to be a very, very long post. With a sudden urge to listen to the songs, I dived into my pool of CDs and lost myself in them, lol. And I must thank you for bringing this up because I had a great time listening to the music that I didn’t even know that I missed that much.

"I really don't have a ton of exposure to Turkish music…"

*evil grin* Because this post is long enough even without my music recommendations and I figured it would be a good way to find the songs I like by uploading them somewhere (because I always lose them somehow), I made a list with download links to the songs as examples and with my long comments in my journal. I just finished uploading the last song so I think it will show up on your friends page in a very short time. It’s, of course, a list of my favourites that I have or could find so I hope you’ll find something you like there. (And I really hope that it doesn’t look as intimidating as I think it looks. Being long and having lots of my gibberish and all...)

--- Yes, ma'am, Savannah is in Georgia. If you've heard of the book/movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", that was set in Savannah - a work of non-fiction that is quite fascinating, and I actually know at least 4 "characters" in the book, one of whom played himself in the film. If you'd like a glimpse of Savannah, that movie is the place to start. Savannah is sort of like the smaller, more charming and placid version of New Orleans. And we've got a quite a history down here - pirates, ghosts, and the whole antebellum lot. You can check out the region here: http://www.savannah.com/index.cfm Although I live in Savannah, my current job takes me all over Southern GA and South Carolina; it's nothing for me to drive several hundred miles every day.

Another film to check out if you're interested in the area is "Forces of Nature", filmed partially in Savannah, and rather close to my home-of-the-moment. Also, there's "The Gift", with Keanu Reeves and Cate Blanchett, which although not filmed in Savannah, was shot in Effingham County - a couple of miles from my high school.

That being said, I'm not actually from Savannah - or the south for that matter, although I've been in Savannah/Atlanta/Athens, Georgia for ten years now. I grew up rather nomadically, in Cleveland, Chicago and several other places.

Thank you so, so much for your amazing list of music recs. I am still downloading and enjoying work from the artists you recommended. :) And I hope you get to Africa sometime soon! Sounds like a lovely adventure, and I must admit to a bit of an obsession with Sierra Leone (my dad worked there for some time) and South Africa as well.

I actually saw all of the movies you mentioned here but because it’s been so long and I watch too many movies for my own good, all I can remember now is some small fragments. (But from what I can remember, Savannah and the area around must be a really lovely, sunny place and I definitely love those historical houses.) This is a great excuse to watch them again :)

And pirates? Ghosts? I love pirates and ghosts! We don't have any ghost stories here so I'll go and check Savannah's stories :D Thank you so much for the link and movie recs! *squishes*
