Hi, folks! How's the writing going this week? I am all over the place with story projects, and seem to be doing many things, none of them well. Hope it's going better for you ( Read more... )

I'm back from Canada, but I haven't really picked up my pen apart from a little last night.

Sex scenes. Personally, I think the maybes and not quites are more interesting than the event. Sex scenes are often very samey, it's hard to keep them fresh, which is one of the reasons I avoid them in the main. I'll put them in if the story needs it, but I'll only write porny stuff if I can come at it from a twisted angle (tentacles!.

My waterloo is getting the pen to paper in the first place. I also struggle with dialogue. I don't enjoy writing it much.

I'm the complete opposite; on a good day I can love writing dialogue, though I hate all the fiddly bits in-between line of speech that you need to make sure people are imagining it right. Every sentence wants to start with he/she or a person's name...

Yeah, the fiddly bits are a big part of the pain. You needs the characters to be doing things to avoid the he said/she said, but sometimes there's only so many times they can sip their tea.

*nods vehemently* That's when you have to break out looking at the ceiling/floor, which gets old even quicker...

And then you lose track of the teacup. Did Giles put it on the table? Was he still holding it when he was pushing up his glasses?

Of course, when you read back you find out that at the beginning of the scene you had him realise his tea was almost down to the dregs, so the fifteen sips he goes on to take make no sense at all... And you need to keep that empty teacup because it's the only way you can think of for Giles to realise the passed time.

You can have him look into it with disappointment, but that only works once. Or... or reach for the teapot. Giles would have a teapot.

But what if he's visiting someone else? Someone teapotless?

He can jiggle his bag. :)

You are hereby charged with getting that in your next fic...

What next fic? ;)

I dunno if Giles would ever feature in anything I've got left to do. I so would do it though!

The fic that will do battle with SPN for your fannish heart/some random chapter of WMWBTY (we've gone past all the Giles/tea-drinking combo bits now, haven't we?)!

*jiggle jiggle jiggle*

Unless there's one in the Epilogue, but I doubt it.

I do have other stories to do. There's a Drogyn one (not going to have Giles). There's the Black Widow 2 (which could have an outside chance). Tentacle 3 (Nah). And the plot one I can't seem to finish (nope).

Well clearly there must be more fic! More! :P

(Maybe Drogyn first though. Has it got dear Lyrie in it?)

Lyrie?

No, anyway. It's an origin story.

I have no way of sounding overly familiar with Illyria (in an ironic way!) that doesn't make me sound like I'm trying to be Spike...
