I'm going to channel some of my own frustrations into fic, because why not? #Unrequitedlove #Sobstory HAHA

Hard, smooth ice spread across the floor like a spillage of water from a dropped glass. But unlike the finite mess of a spillage, the ice only continued to grow, spreading up the walls, little tendrils curling across the ceiling. Icy crystal stalagmites began to sprout, dangerously sharp but sturdy, and the room was getting unbearably cold.
“You’re getting married?” Hokuto, the ice mage, asked. A quiver in his voice, the only hint of hurt he let slip, when his magic already betrayed the emotions he was holding within him.
“Stop throwing a tantrum,” she chided him. “We both knew this would happen someday.”
Her answer was cold and short. But he had always loved the way she had the gall to talk back at him. She was a princess; a political bargaining tool. They both knew what they were getting into when they fell in love, but now there was no future for the two of them together. If she embraced him now, it would only make things worse. Would she have the strength to tear herself away?
“When?” he asked. His back still turned to her. His broad shoulders seemed so cold and lonely. She fought every urge to press her face into it and wrap her arms around him.
“Next week,” she answered, as calmly as she could.
“How long did you know?” he asked, face turning to look her in the eyes.
Seeing his tears, she fought back her own and turned to look out the window.
“Look at me!” he begged. The tail of his long coat swishing dramatically as he spun around to face her. “Tell me… How long did you intend to keep me in the dark?”
Tears rolled down both their cheeks. She trembled but her posture remained regal. “I did it because I knew you’d be like this.”
She took a step towards him but he stopped her. He raised a single finger, silently pleading for one moment of solitude.
“Go.”
She blinked at him. “Hokuto…” she tried to reason with him.
“LEAVE ME!” he burst out, summoning a wall of ice in between them.
She sighed. “Fine,” she said defeatedly. She turned and left. Never to return.

He woke, startled, sitting up sharply in his bed as the memories faded. It was just a dream. A memory of a time long passed. He still didn’t know exactly how many years had he been cursed and locked away. But he knew that she was no longer in the world that he awoke in.
He turned to look at the figure sleeping in the bed next to him.
“How strange…” he muttered, eyeing the prince’s serene face as he slept, unbothered by whatever noise Hokuto must’ve made. Hokuto rubbed at his eyes. He just looked so much like her.
'Her great-grandson' Juri, the royal paige had told him. And to add to the confusion, this prince also shared her name, Taiga.
“How very strange.”
