So I almost forgot my turn... and therefore I just wrote this terrible attempt at angstshipping. My apologies.
"My way or the highway," Malik jokes, jerking his thumb towards the front door as if Ryou didn't know the layout of his own apartment.
Ryou chuckles, not even looking up from the deck of cards he's shuffling. "Trying to change the rules won't make it any easier for you to win," he warns but without any hint of malice.
Malik thinks it's kind of weird to be playing a card game that isn't Duel Monsters, but he can't say no when Ryou looks so excited to play. There's no way Malik missed the way Ryou's eyes lit up when he suggested the game, the way his shoulders relaxed as he got the cards set up.
He doesn't think he's seen Ryou relaxed in weeks. Not since his college classes started up again. Malik isn't freeloading at Ryou's apartment all the time, but he's there often enough to see Ryou rake his fingers through his hair in frustration while he reads his textbooks or writes his essays.
Everyone needs a break once in a while.
"You ready to play?" Ryou asks, gazing at him over the top of his cards, hiding what is surely a teasing smile on his face.
Malik glances at the cards in his hand, and then looks up with a smirk of his own.
"Let's see how lucky you are."
You're up
