More set in this 'verse, only (evidently) before the events in the previous ficbit. In DB07 MoriShin plays Koki's brother, but since Juri actually is Koki's brother... 8D

"Awake already?" Yara squinted at Kazuya through a curtain of dark hair as he struggled to reach full consciousness. "Isn't it a bit early? It can't be much after five..."

"Something's up with Champ," Kazuya said, carefully picking his way through the rubble of the old boxing gym where they had spent the night. "There's a book in the office, isn't there, about head injuries? I think when he got hit in yesterday's 'quake something went wrong with his eyes."

"Book…" Yara rubbed his eyes and sat up. "I don't remember," he confessed. "It's been a while since I was here last, naa…" His face prickled from where he'd gone too many days without shaving. Idly, he scratched at his chin, before clambering to his feet with a wince as his body protested against the night spent on the cold, hard floor. "He's in the other room?"

"Yeah." Kazuya's voice reached him from the office, sounding distracted as he hastily rummaged through the piles of items that had fallen from the shelves and desks the day before. "I think he's trying to get through to Juri again. I tried before, too, but the phone line was making weird crackling noises."

"I see." Yara looked around, reorienting himself once more before making his way over to the window and looking out. "The sky looks kinda weird today too, huh," he said, peering up at the patch of orange-tinted dawn light he could just about see over the earthquake-damaged buildings around them. "At least it looks clear enough. D'you think Koki will be okay to travel?"

"I don't know," Kazuya said, emerging from the office with a book and a first aid box. Now that Yara was more awake he could see the tiredness on his friend's thin face, and he worried at his bottom lip in thought as he watched Kazuya cautiously made his way back to the smaller room in which Koki still was.

"Will I be of any use?" Yara asked, blurting out the words louder than he'd intended and making Kazuya turn in surprise. "Now, I mean," he continued. "Or will I just get in the way? I can go look for something for us to eat, or…"

Kazuya looked thoughtful; he clearly had no more idea of what to do than Yara did. Strangely, Yara found this hugely reassuring.

"…I don't know. I think…" Kazuya paused, then nodded as he reached a decision. "Yeah, yes. C'mon. I think he would appreciate your presence."
