Easy might not be the term to use to describe how being in a relationship with Min Yoongi is.
Kim Seokjin should know. He’s been with Yoongi for five years now. Five years filled with a rollercoaster of emotions enough to leave him screaming in the empty emergency stairs of the apartment one minute and sobbing on Yoongi’s arms the next.
Yoongi, with his mint green hair and pointed gold earrings, stands out extremely in Kim Seokjin’s otherwise boring study. Holding a glass of water for Seokjin to take, Yoongi looks more like a punk rather than a creative director for a top advertising agency. Seokjin takes the glass from his boyfriend without looking at him, gulping it with hesitation.
“Do you feel better now?”
Yoongi’s voice is tentative, as if testing the waters. Seokjin looks up from his position behind the desk; back leaning on the leather chair Yoongi gifted him on his last birthday. Come to think of it, Yoongi gifted him almost everything in his study, choosing white furniture over pink walls because he knows that’s how Seokjin likes it to be.
Which Seokjin really does.
Yoongi looks remorseful, tired even. His eye bags show beneath the moisturizer Seokjin forces him to put on his face twice a day so it won’t dry easily.
“You just punched my boss on the face in front of my officemates; do you really think I’d feel better after just a sip of water?”
Yoongi shrugs and pulls an empty chair on the other side of the desk. He casually drapes his arms on Seokjin’s desk, pushing all of the law books aside in the process, before he glares at his boyfriend. “I was actually aiming for that dickhead’s crotch, but his face was a good alternative.” He takes the glass of water from Seokjin’s side and drinks it.
From this perspective, Yoongi can see a photo frame with their photo taken at Everland a couple of months back. He can also see the Super Mario figurine he bought for Seokjin. Or rather made his assistant, poor young Jeongguk, buy at a toy convention for a hefty sum. Seokjin doesn’t know that and Yoongi likes that to be permanent.
Seokjin rolls his eyes. “Did it not occur to you that I may be terminated because of what you’ve done?”
“Did it not occur to you that I may have thought of that when I punched that asshole?” Yoongi challenges his boyfriend.
The tension between them is clear in the air. It’s almost midnight and the entire house is dark save for the study where the only light is from the study lamp open on Seokjin’s desk. The silence is almost palpable as they glare at each other. Their fights are always like this. Five years of being together has led them to silent glaring fights than turn into questioning each other’s decisions and sighing before resigning to defeat.
Yoongi pulls Seokjin’s hands with his. His hold is firm and his fingers warm. Seokjin squeezes Yoongi’s hand because as much as he hates what Yoongi’s done with his boss; he craves for Yoongi every single time and in every single form. Plus, his boss is indeed an asshole who deserved what happened to him.
“Look, Seokjin.” Yoongi yanks Seokjin’s face towards him when the latter won’t take his eyes away from the table. “Seokjin, hyung, please. That asshole deserved it. He always treats you like you’re dirt, shouting profanities at you and throwing things at you when he’s stressed.”
Seokjin lets out a sigh, right hand rubbing his temples. It’s a habit he’s developed ever since he started studying law. “But Yoongi, what about the bills? This house?” Seokjin waves his hand in the air. “If I get terminated from work, I can’t give you my share for the bills.”
Yoongi snorts at that. “Hyung, my salary is more than enough for us. And if you really want to work, there’s an opening for in our Legal Department, I’m quite sure you fit the job description.”
Seokjin’s eyes turn bright. If there’s an opening for the legal department in Yoongi’s office… “Then we can go to work together and have lunch together?”
Yoongi’s laughter is loud in the otherwise quiet house. “What happened to feeling bad over what happened to your boss?”
“You should have hit him in the crotch, but yes his ugly face is indeed a good alternative.”
Months later when Seokjin is finally employed in Yoongi’s company as the head of the Legal Department, Yoongi tells Seokjin that he’s applied Seokjin for the job three months before he punched the latter’s boss. Seokjin throws cookies at his boyfriend while Yoongi runs for his life while shouting “Hey, I’ve always wanted to punch the dickhead who kept on hurting you”
