I am sort of back...at least temporarily. Ugh. This next month will be so stressful but I'll try to find the time to write as much as I can.
Light hair contrasted with dark skin. A pair of deep red eyes watched as the group of humans walked into the dark forest. It had been a while since he’d seen any humans anywhere near this area. Most people knew better. Most people stayed away. The nearest village was about an hour away. Anybody who asked about these woods would be told about the curse that lay on it:
A demon resided within the forest and would claim at least one human soul if any dared to step inside.
One of the people in the group caught his eye. He knew that one. He had seen that human male before, years ago. As an immortal that never aged, he lost track of time easily. A few human years must have passed, ten, maybe twenty. The male had grown up.
He remembered that the previous time he had seen the other the then boy had only looked at the forest from afar before his parents had taken him away. What he had seen in the boy’s eyes had amused him. The challenge and defiance. Despite radiating fear, the boy had put on a brave front and had dared to challenge the forest and its inhabitants.
“Shimura, do you really think it’s a good idea to come here?”
“Don’t chicken out on me now, Yamane. I’ve been trying to do this for years but I’ve always gotten caught by someone or the other when I tried. I didn’t think that all it would take was to invite a few people to go with me.”
“We said we’d go somewhere else and not here!”
“You were all for it when we planned it, Hiro. It’s too late to go back now!”
He could hear the voices from afar and smiled. Shimura, huh?
Looking at the sky, his smile widened into a smirk when he saw the rainclouds. This would be fun.
Sure enough, the rain chased the group of young adults into one of the nearby caves. With a trick or two, he made sure that the one called Shimura was separated from the group and wandered straight into his trap - an icy cavern underneath the caves and tunnels.
“You came here to meet me, didn’t you?” he lounged on a block of ice. “Well, congratulations then. You have found me.” Shifting slightly, his silver hair fell into his face and covered one of his red eyes.
“WOAH!” Shimura jumped and scrambled back. “Who are you?” The other apparently noticed his eyes then. “What are you?”
He chuckled lowly, “Haven’t you been listening to the villagers’ stories? I’m sure your parents must have told you about it countless of times.”
“Don’t pull my leg. There’s no way that things like demons could exist!” Shimura didn’t seem as confident in his words as he probably wanted to be. There was doubt swinging in his words. “What’s your name? And why are you here?”
Leaning back a bit, he shrugged, “I am called ‘Danji’, although nobody has called me by name in a very long time. And I’ve been bound to this forest by a curse a long time ago by a priest. He actually wanted to kill me but he wasn’t strong enough to do that. So I just ended up being confined to this area.”
Before the other could say anything, he added, “And I am a demon. If you don’t believe me, I’ll just have to show you.” He moved to the other’s side in the blink of an eye and smiled at Shimura. “Let me devour your soul.” Danji pressed his cold lips against Teppei’s own warm ones.
