Loud voices could be heard not too far away, where the fight was still going on.
Teppei wiped some blood from the corner of his lips with his sleeve and looked around the back of the warehouse they had chosen as a battleground for the night. He’d felt eyes on him when he’d struck down a member of the other gang just now. Somebody had been watching him.
“Whoever you are, show yourself! Do you want a fight?” he called out.
A figure emerged from the shadows. It was another male. Silver hair fell partially into his face as he turned to look at Teppei.
“I heard you guys were having a party over here,” the stranger commented. “But I don’t think I’m interested in joining.”
A frown appeared on Teppei’s face. He had never seen the other around. The guy wasn’t a member of any gang, nor did he look like somebody from one of the high schools in the area. There was something odd about the guy though. He seemed short and rather frail and yet somehow dangerous.
Before they could exchange any more words, the sound of footsteps approaching them turned Teppei’s attention away. He found one of his comrades running over.
“Shimura!”
“What is it?”
“What was ‘Dan’ doing here?”
Was? Teppei turned around to look but the other was gone. Then he turned back to his gang member, “Who was that? You knew him?”
“Not much, really. He’s called ‘Dan’ apparently and is the leader of a bunch of rogues around the river area. They’re drop-outs, who like to torment the ‘good little schoolboys’. Some of them just like a good fight or do whatever. Laze around. I heard the guy’s seriously strong though. So be careful. A few of the schoolboys apparently said that when he gets pissed off, his eyes glow red and his white hair grows longer and he’ll turn into some sort of demon.”
Snorting, Teppei commented, “That’s ridiculous. If anything that silver hair just makes him look like an old geezer or something.”
Despite his brave words, Teppei did feel a slight chill at the thought of the guy he’d just met. There had been something about the other. Something, Teppei was unable to put his finger onto. It was something dark and potentially dangerous.
