I've been wanting to try an 'Inside Llewyn Davis' inspired musician AU for a while. I'm not really sure where I'm going with this opening but it's words so I'll take it.
For this part: Taiga X Yasui; PG
"Coffee?" A warm voice asks, and Taiga looks up into a smile too bright for the dreary night it's turning into. "Black, two sugars right?"
Taiga looks at the paper cup being held out to him - he doesn't need to see the familiar logo to know it's from the coffee stand by the station entrance, just along the street, he'd know that smile anywhere.
He goes there sometimes, on good nights, after he packs up but it's more for that smile than the mediocre coffee. Tonight hasn't been a good night, and the darkening clouds overhead don't give much hope of it getting better. He wouldn't have been going to get coffee tonight. He can't say no to that smile though, however little he trusts it.
"Thanks, take the money out of the case." He says, nodding at the guitar case laying open on the floor, it hasn't been a good night but there's enough change in it for coffee. There's not enough to make up his rent, that's going to be a fun conversation when he gets home - presuming he can still call it home, Hokuto might have thrown his shit out onto the street already.
"Oh, no." The cheery guy says, chipmunk cheeks squeezing his eyes almost closed. "It's on the house."
"Why?" Taiga asks on reflex, and the smile quirks into puzzled.
"I like listening to you play..." the guy says almost warily. "That's kinda the angle with street performers right?" Street performer? That's the most diplomatic way Taiga's heard it described, he's not wrong though. Before he can answer the guy shrugs, smile slipping back onto his face. "It's coming in cold...I thought your fingers would appreciate the warmth."
His fingers, Taiga looks down at them clutched around the fret board, they are turning a little blue.
He sees the guy nod in his peripheral, and then he puts the cup down by Taiga's case before turning away.
"Hey." Taiga calls after him and then he shakes his head a little, putting on his game face. "Thanks...for the coffee."
The guy smiles. "Thank you for singing..." and for a moment he lingers, feet shuffling against the wet concrete. "I'm Yasui by the way...Yasui Kentaro..."
"Taiga."
Yasui's smile brightens but Taiga can't be sure if he's amused or just pleased. "No family name?" He asks.
"No." Taiga answers shortly, not one he's ready to divulge to the cute coffee vendor with the warm smile anyway.
Yasui tilts his head to the side, definitely amused but maybe a little intrigued. When he accepts that Taiga isn't going to elaborate on that he shakes his head and stuffs his hands into his pockets, smiling as he turns back to the coffee stand. "I should get back."
You're up
