Sorry this is late again. I just started a new job, with a bigger coverage area and bigger responsibility. I was just gonna skip, but I wanted to start writing another AU involving my favorite pairing so please forgive this lowly one.
Contains spoilers for Episode 25-26 of the Live Action adaptation of Legend of Fei, for the title to make a little sense.
All sounds of battle become nothing more than background noise when Taiga sees Juri fall, exhausted, worry seizing him when Juri’s grip on his blade fails completely. In the span of five seconds, Taiga repels two enemies closing in on Juri’s vulnerable form using the power of his palm, and quickly lifts Juri off the ground. He picks up Juri’s blade with the same swiftness, and Taiga thrusts the sword back into Juri’s hand just as Juri returns to consciousness.
The General strikes and Juri can only block the other man’s iron fist with his sword, and then Taiga is charging over to his defense. Juri feels the exhaustion seep into his bones once more, leaning onto his weapon as he watches Taiga fight The General with his bare hands, feeling a strange power coming off in waves from Taiga. Juri watches as The General flies onto the other side of the battlefield with just the flick of Taiga’s palm.
“I can actually take you away from here,” Taiga whispers into Juri’s ear once they’re within each other’s grasp again, Taiga’s arm wrapped around Juri’s waist and onto the slackening hold of his blade.
Taiga’s words rouses Juri, recalling exactly where he is and what is happening to his own home. Juri gives himself a determined shake of the head, fingers brushing over Taiga’s hand and bringing up his other hand on the sword they’re both holding. He holds Taiga’s gaze, questions already forming in the back of his mind, but there are enemies closing in on them again-Taiga allows Juri to bear the full weight of his weapon and watches as one swing of it manages to kill two unlucky foot soldiers.
The battle stops for no one, Juri reminds himself, and he forces himself up just in time to avoid having his neck sliced by another enemy soldier. Then the sound of signal flares reaches his ears, the one that his mother uses.
One of his people breaks the news over the battlefield, “The Leader is back!”
With his mother’s return, his father’s army would not be far behind. The enemies see no other option than flee for the moment. Juri feels his body giving up entirely, his injuries finally taking their toll. Taiga is there to catch him before he hits the ground, and Juri’s mind is at ease as his eyes close.
