Taiga can feel Juri’s heartbeat speeding up as the man takes longer breaths that halt at every other moment, and Taiga just snuggles more deeply into him. Juri tilts his head up to meet Taiga’s eyes, the movement taking great effort, his gaze unfocused yet trying to keep his eyes open.
With the last of Juri’s strength, he raises his hand to hold over Taiga’s cheek. If Taiga could shed tears, Juri’s thumb would’ve been trying to wipe them away, but he’s simply stroking Taiga’s cheek while he can.
“Let’s sleep?” Taiga whispers, not trusting his voice, as he looks openly devastated.
Juri just continues stroking Taiga’s cheek, burrowing into Taiga’s chest. His eyes flutter shut and his breathing grinds to a stop at the last exhale, the lax grip of his hand falling away at the same moment.
Taiga holds Juri closer to him still, soaking up the warmth that would soon leave his body. And then his own eyes close, finally allowing himself to give in.
