[Team Four] How Chanyeol Met Me

Nov 15, 2020 13:40

Continuation for my HIMYM!AU! :D Finally, writing from PCY's pov!

The first time had indeed been an accident. It had happened because he had been out drinking with Sehun too late, and he had forgotten to set his alarm.

The second time he had been stuck in the traffic. Maybe he had left his apartment a bit too late, but it had been a legit excuse. Who wouldn't have experienced heavy traffic and sluggish buses during peak hours?

But now it was about to happen for the third time, and Chanyeol had a vague fear in the back of his mind that professor Shin wasn't going to be that forgiving any longer and would kick him out of the course. Their professor wasn't famous for tolerating any students being late for the class.

While running the stairs to the third floor, Chanyeol started coming up with excuses. Maybe he should tell about getting into a fight (sympathy card), helping the old granny in the next door to cross a street, and carry her grocery items (see-how-helpful-and-kind-I-am card), or getting blown away by the strong wind (appalling weather card).

When he reached the classroom and pulled the door open, he wasn't met by the voice of his angry professor but only a happy babble between other students. That meant that the class hadn't started yet, and Chanyeol was safe. Good spirits were on his side on that day, for once.

The lecture room was packed, so Chanyeol flopped down on the first vacant seat next to the corridor at the back row. He had to take a minute to catch some breath before he could dig out a laptop and a notebook from his backpack.

Chanyeol didn't have much time to settle down when he heard the door opening.

"Good morning!" someone by the door exclaimed with a loud brisk voice, and Chanyeol automatically turned around because he couldn't recognize the voice. The voice belonged to a short guy with brown hair who Chanyeol had never seen before.

Chanyeol blinked as he stared at the guy with a confused look and then frowned. That surely wasn't professor Shin.

Wait, was Chanyeol in the wrong classroom? No, that couldn't be the case because he saw other students from his class year with the same major as him. Maybe this guy was their substitute teacher? Maybe heavens had heard Chanyeol's prayers, and professor Shin had needed to drop the course--

"We have no time to lose, I'm sorry for being a few seconds late, but the bus was late. You all know how buses in this city are - they are so unclassy they should re-name all bus companies as Marxist Utopia", the guy babbled as he walked down the stairs to the front.

Okay, that had been funny. Chanyeol chuckled aloud for the joke but soon realized that no-one else in the room had laughed. A guy sitting next to him shot a weird glance and eye-rolling towards him.

"What? That was funny!" Chanyeol silently hissed to the guy, and the guy didn't bother answering but only straightened his back and adjusted his glasses for a better position. What a boring dude.

Chanyeol turned his attention back to the front and started following with interest the scene going on. The short guy was now standing behind the auditorium's front booth, and he was browsing through some papers he had fished out from his bag while explaining something about the course structure nervously.

Somehow Chanyeol couldn't register what the guy was saying. He only caught himself thinking that guy was surprisingly attractive; he had handsome features, but his nervous speaking manner and crouched shoulders made him look cute at the same time.

It had been a while since Chanyeol had thought about some random person that they were attractive. He wasn't like his friend and roommate Sehun, who frequently brought his dates to their apartment and was generally very active in dating.

There had been times that Sehun had implied that there were lots of rumors going on around Chanyeol and his love life, but he couldn't care a less - it was no-one's business, and if people wanted to believe something and got amusement from that, so let it be.

Once again, his thoughts were interrupted when he realized the guy wasn't the one talking any longer, but Jimin, a sassy classmate of his he had never genuinely liked, was suddenly speaking.

"--this is not a sociology class. You're in the wrong auditorium. This is one of the advanced special courses for the music technology," Jimin informed, her tone having that usual cheekiness she was famous for.

Even from the back row, Chanyeol could see the guy gulped in shock, eyes widened. Jimin continued preaching something about the classroom system while the guy started hoarding all his belongings in panic. He apologized and kept bowing, and it didn't take long before he was already back on the stairs and swooshed beside Chanyeol's seat to the door like a wind.

Chanyeol blinked and stared at the door closing behind the guy. What a poor man, mixing up with the classrooms on his first day at work. Chanyeol hadn't even heard his name.

Professor Shin appeared only a minute later (of course, not apologizing for being late; apparently, he was above that kind of politeness). The teacher immediately put order into their class, firmly asked everyone to calm down and stop talking about the weird guy. The bizarre encounter was soon forgotten as everyone concentrated on the professor's long exhausting explanations about the interaction between PA systems.

That hectic morning remained the most exciting thing that happened for Chanyeol during his mundane week. Had it been a movie or a TV series, Chanyeol would have followed the guy and ask him out. But alas, his life wasn't a movie or a TV series, so it was better like that. Not like he would see the guy ever again.

Your turn, luciferxdamien! :)
