Unfaithful
She was too fast for him. She said "hello" and "goodbye" all in one swing and left him standing there. She tore away from his arms, holding herself, a ship ready to sail away, and said her partings. She couldn't be tied. She couldn't be held. He stood on firm land, with one foot in the sea, while she stood there upon the cliffs looking down. She shook her head and turned away.
"Goodbye."
Forlorn
"I am your bride by vow alone," said the maiden, though the man doubted a maiden she be. "Wife by paper and partner by words. My thoughts do not go to you. They are mine and mine alone." She scowled. She roared. She turned on heel and left the man. In her thoughts she wandered. She met another soul and took his hands. She cried against his shirt and when she made a sound, his fingers brushed away the moisture at her eyes.
Her husband sat in their marriage bed whilst she dreamed of the man he could be.
Memory
At one point, she stopped thinking of him. She stopped remembering those lips and those eyes and instead painted the walls of her mind with serenity and normality. In the halls of the buildings, they met, but she passed by, a cold, unfeeling breeze.
