A week from today is the start of National Novel Writing Month. During November amateur and pro writers alike commit to writing 1,560 words daily in an attempt to complete a 50,000 word novel in a month.
It's intense. I've done it twice and ended up with utter crap. Now, with writing as a day job, I think I could do another one, but only if I give up on sleeping in November.
I began my last novel last year with the intention of being finished by November 1 of this year. It gave me the feeling of community that everyone experiences because everyone is writing. But then it got a little lonely on December 1. But it was worth it, because with a little bit of clean-up I feel that I actually have something that I can take to a publisher instead of something that needs an entire complete rewrite.
Thanks for the suggestionstree_ladyOctober 25 2010, 22:18:26 UTC
I've participated in NaNoWriMo virtually every year since 2003. At this point, I have 5 slightly incomplete novels to show for it: Life Tides, Marooned, DaBoid daTree-Rat 'n daLoser; Gryphon & Basilisk vol.3, and Peace Bride. (I write -long- and it's hard to keep going after Nov. 30, so I've never quite finished any of these--though I always "win" with the 50,000+ word count.
This year, I'm sticking with my local writing group, Written Remains Writers Guild in a Mini-WriMo.. We're going to be doing one page of writing per day. Please come join us--you don't have to be a member of WRWG to do so:
