Hi all. Yes, I know we’ve been a little quiet in here - RL got super-busy, but I thought somebody else might make the odd post or two. Since they haven’t, I’m now pondering on the future of Writer’s Toybox
( Read more... )
It's sad that so many lj comms seem to be dying out these days. Personally, I don't get the appeal of Tumblr.
If it stops being a B/A community, there won't be any left(other than IWRY Marathon)
I think this is a great place to find prompt ideas. So I hope you leave it up and maybe if nothing else add prompts, plot bunnies, etc... every once in a while.
With RL so busy, I have practically no spare time to spend on fandom, (which is why I gave up IWRY this year) and I need to figure out where my time will be best spent, or indeed, if there is anything I can do that people still want…
Thank you for responding. I’m still hoping for more responses, to show that somebody else besides us still care, but I got fed up making prompts and such to be greeted with silence. I hope that means everybody was too busy writing to answer…
I’m happy to leave Toybox here. I just want to know somebody will come in and play with the toys sometimes!
Are there really no B/A coms left? That’s so very sad.
Makes two of us. If I can post stuff but no one can really talk back to me, what the hell is the point? I came to LJ because I liked having conversations.
You can in an indirect way. Someone puts up a post, other people either "like" it or they repost it on their own tumblr with an additional comment or response - it's very counter-intuitive. But apparently some people like it.
I'm sorry that your community has been moribund of late, btw. I've ended up being more of a fanfic artist here and not really a writer except for nonfiction so I'm afraid i can't add anything.
Thank you. I don’t know where everyone is to be honest.
Members don’t need to post stories - people used to add prompts, interesting words or links to articles they’ve found, etc… but there’s been nothing lately. A bit of a shame, really.
I assume you mean more than just the usual summer "where is everyone"? (At the icontest comms I frequent, the mods are having to extend deadlines and the number of entries is very low compared to what it was in the springtime.)
And admitttedly I don't know many Bangel folks aside from leni_ba and bangel_4e. It sounds a bit similar here to Open on Sunday in terms of what people can do here?
If you like I can pimp this site this coming week and say hey, looking for members? I may have hidden Bangel shippers on my flist.
Yes, its been pretty quiet for a while, but that’s probably my fault. If you don’t post, they don’t come…
Well, I’ve never been to Open on Sunday. Essentially, Writer’s Toybox was intended as a prompt resource. We use a lots of general writing prompts (a lot of non-B/A-ers come in and steal or read them, but that’s okay!) The only pairing-specific prompts we allow, obviously, are B/A(us) ones and only their stories can be posted here, but otherwise everyone is welcome to share our toys.
By all means pimp. New members would be wonderful, thank you!
My S.O moans that no one responds to her art blog and FB and I try to gently tell her "you have to post things on a regular basis sweetie to build an audience" but I don't think the message is being received. *Lol*
I'm trying to post on my LJ more regularly myself, even if it's something short and silly. But RL comes first, y'know?
Would this site be of more interest to you yourself if you made the changes you suggested (a more general writing site?) If you're excited about it, other people will be too.
I'll be glad to pimp this site - I love the idea of it, being able to seek advice and not just post stuff and wait for everyone else to applaud.
Yes. The web is a big place, full of shiny new things, and if you don’t jump up and down waving your arms in the air, people tend to overlook you - even if they like what you do. Too many things to look at, and not enough time, I guess.
It’s hard finding time to post regularly isn’t it? When I was more organised (don’t laugh, it happens occasionally) I used to prepare some updates in advance, on days when I had more time, and it helped to cover the days that I didn’t.

If you're excited about it, other people will be too. That’s an interesting question. This site nearly was a general one, to be honest, but friends asked me to make it a B/A one, and since I had a whole flock of B/A sites it seemed a reasonable request. But its restricting, and keeps out a whole batch of folk who might otherwise have fun here. It think that my enthusiasm is low because a) RL is a little too real right now, b) fandom lethargy has been
( ... )
And ADD is NOT my friend. I've had to limit where I visit daily just to keep from going insane. I try to post at least once a week and I'm making every effort to do so more often but I often fail. (oh look, a new fanfic, shiny!)

I think you're answering your own question. If the format doesn't excite you what's the point? Fandom is supposed to be about having fun.

I would've responded sooner but I was opening up the next round of wicked_awards.
I've put a link to this comm in the IWRY Marathon Welcome Letter. Just in case someone might need help finding a prompt for their story.

If you want, you can mention that they’re welcome to make their own posts, ask questions, add their own prompts, etc.

Okay, I'll do that.
