That was what had made it so exciting, that adrenaline rush that came from not knowing if you'd come out the other side.
He still did all the things that were dangerous and foolish, because he often saved other people in the process. But when you already knew the outcome, that you would survive anything and everything, your nervous system didn't bother sending out the chemicals that made you feel alive. It was hard to live in the now when he knew that the now would last forever.
Ianto showed Jack how wrong he'd been.
Jack thought it would be a quick thing, a fun shag, a few minutes of pleasure. (Well, more than a few minutes; Jack's stamina was amazing.)
The slick flesh beneath his hands, the warm breath in his ear, the moans of pleasure…some of Jack's past lovers had been much more skilled. But never had he let himself go so completely, to the point where he had no conscious thoughts, and was lost only in sensations. His body burned beneath Ianto's cool, precise touch. And his heart raced at a speed he never thought he'd feel again. He came hard, gasping, clinging to Ianto like a drowning man clinging to a life raft.
He could not give himself to death. But he could still surrender himself to the moment.
