“Kansas”
Dry earth cracked beneath his feet
As he pulled up again
Deep breaths echoed in an aching chest
Thankful for the sun that glared
Down mercilessly from the sky
He was a man raised from perdition
Forever changed in so very many ways
Scarred from weeks of agony that
Felt more akin to forty long years
Now he must find a way to carry on
His feet will him to move
There is a sense of urgency in the air
Yet at the same time he finds that
He really isn't in much of a hurry
Not now, for what is done is done
Inside he holds his secrets so very
Close to the vest, all those things
He can never let another see
This is his time now to walk alone
Never knowing that grace walks
Just beside of him
