Title: The Music Brings Us Together
Chapter: 14/?
Pairing: Adam/Kris
Rating: R (For later chapters)
Summary: The behind-the-scenes story that we never saw, as I imagine it, anyways.
Beta: Adamgrrrl
Disclamer: Unfortunately, I do not own Kris, Adam, or anyone else in this story. Nor do I own any of the songs, or anything recognizable from American Idol or Ford. I barely own the plotline, as its based on the show. Adam and Kris belong completely to themselves, and each other.

This particular Wednesday night was unique for them, in that it was filled with more celebration than normal, and none of the usual tears. Usually somber words of encouragement were given, and sodas were passed around, despite Adam's and Matt’s claims that these nights really called for something stronger. No, this Wednesday, Kris smiled and raised his glass along with everyone else, toasting Matt's second save during the competition. Everyone dutifully failed to focus on the fact that it was now disco week, and each consciously ignored the impending elimination of two contestants in a week’s time.

“You know you’ll really have to step it up next week,” Lil teased him.

“He’s gonna do amazing,” Adam piped in, slinging an arm around Matt’s shoulders.

“Yeah, what he said!” Ali proclaimed brightly.

The party continued well the night, and Kris awoke groggy the next morning. He wondered vaguely when he’d finally fallen asleep, but decided that he didn’t quite care enough to ask anyone if they knew. He glanced sideways, smiling at the familiar sight of Adam sleeping in the bed across the room. It struck him as strange, how much he’d grown accustomed to seeing a sleeping Adam every morning when he woke up. And he’d been so close last night to losing that comfort.

Kris shook his head and threw the sheets from his body, sighing heavily. If they had separate rooms, it would probably be for the better, anyway. Especially lately, as Adam had taken to kissing him whenever he wanted, though, thankfully only in the privacy of their room. Most of the time it was just a peck, or a lingering kiss that lasted a moment too long. Adam had tried, quite intently to push it further, but Kris hadn’t yielded yet, and he was quite proud and impressed with his own self-control. How impressed Adam was, Kris wasn’t sure, and didn’t want to find out, but that didn’t really matter.

“Morning, sunshine,” Adam said brightly as Kris walked out of the bathroom, towel tied loosely around his waist. Kris just offered him a small smile, not even to speak. He wouldn’t be able to anyway, because he knew what came next. Adam closed the distance between them and pressed a soft kiss against Kris’s lips. Kris returned it eagerly, but pulled away when he felt Adam’s tongue against his lip. He hit Adam lightly on the shoulder, and the older man laughed, brushing past him and closing himself in the bathroom. Harmless. Always harmless.

Hours later, Kris sat in the rehearsal room, looking over the newest list of songs. He checked his watch. Weird, it was quarter after three already. He glanced at the door again and sighed. He and Adam always met in the rehearsal room on Thursdays at three. They hardly ever actually picked out their songs definitely, but they always had it narrowed down to a short-list of two or three by three forty-five, at which point they would always leave for a photo shoot, or an interview, or something.

At three thirty, Kris stood and walked out of the room. Maybe Adam had just lost track of time? Walking towards the kitchen, Kris ran into Ali and stopped her. “Have you seen Adam?”

“Yeah, he left a little while ago,” Ali said. “Why?”

Kris furrowed his brow. Adam had said he was leaving to hang out with some friend or other, earlier, but Kris had assumed he’d be back to go over the song list with him. “He was supposed to meet me,” he explained, “and he’s late. Think something happened?"

“Probably not,” Ali said, shrugging. When Kris continued to look at her uneasily, she snickered. “Aww, you know Adam. He probably got distracted by something shiny.”

Kris laughed softly with her, then pulled her into a one-armed hug. “I‘m sure you’re right.”

“Always am,” Ali said, winking at him before bouncing off towards her room. Kris laughed, staring after her with a small smile.

“Hey,” Kris said, walking into their room that night. Adam looked up from some papers he was looking at.

“Hey,” Adam said, and Kris noticed the way he folded the papers nonchalantly and made to shove them in the drawer of his bedside table.

“What’s that?” Kris asked, nodding to the papers, though he was sure he already knew.

“Song I’m thinking about doing this week,” Adam said, shrugging casually.

Kris sat down on the edge of Adam’s bed, his eyes flickering from the drawer back up to Adam. “Can I see?”

Adam smiled and shook his head. “It’s a surprise,” he whispered, as though he were ten years old and telling a secret to his best friend at recess.

“Aww, come on,” Kris said, “Lemme see it, please? I won’t tell anyone else.”

“Nope,” Adam said with and air of finality, and leaned his head back, shutting his eyes resolutely. “And the puppy dog face isn’t going to work, either,” he added, and Kris had to smile wryly at how well Adam knew him.

Kris glared at him, then smirked slightly. Slowly, quietly, he inched his way up on the bed until his face was right next to Adam’s, then pressed a soft kiss against his neck. Adam started so suddenly that he almost fell off the bed, his eyes bugging out comically. Kris laughed, but didn’t move away from him. “Pretty please?” Kris asked breathily against his ear, then moved in and kissed Adam’s cheek. "With sugar on top?"

Adam groaned, though Kris couldn't tell whether in annoyance or pleasure. “No,” Adam growled resolutely. Kris started to say something again, but stopped when he felt Adam’s hand on the back of his neck, and quickly closed his mouth as Adam’s lips found his. Kris leaned heavily into it, even allowed Adam to lay them both back on the bed, rather against his better judgment.

Kris tangled a hand in Adam’s hair, gasping softly when Adam’s arm found its way around his waist and pulled their bodies tightly together. Forgetting his actual reasoning for starting this game, Kris kissed him back fiercely, nibbling lightly on his bottom lip, though never opening his mouth enough for Adam’s tongue to slip in. For the first time, Adam was the one to break the kiss. They leaned their foreheads together, both breathing heavily.

“This is so not right,” Adam muttered into his neck, though Kris could feel him smiling as he slowly licked his way along Kris’ jaw line and down to his collarbone. Kris shuddered, and he felt Adam’s lips curl into a smirk. Smug little jackass.

“Not really wrong, either,” Kris said a little breathlessly, not thinking too hard as he craned his neck slightly to allow Adam easier access.

He refrained from whimpering with great difficulty as Adam pulled back to give him a serious look. “Then what exactly would you call it?”

Kris shrugged and leaned forward, giving Adam another quick peck on the lips before replying with the only answer he possibly could. “Harmless?”
