Title: The Music Brings Us Together
Chapter: 4/?
Pairing: Adam/Kris
Rating: R (For later chapters)
Summary: The behind-the-scenes story that we never saw, as I imagine it, anyways.
Disclamer: Unfortunately, I do not own Kris, Adam, or anyone else in this story. Nor do I own any of the songs, or anything recognizable from American Idol or Ford. I barely own the plotline, as its based on the show. Adam and Kris belong completely to themselves, and each other.

The rest of the week began relatively the same. Everyone had basically stopped thinking about Monday as the first day of the week. Thursday was the first day of the week, when everything would start new. Tuesday and Wednesday were jam-packed weekends, and the rest of the week was relaxing for two groups, and rehearsals for the other. Alison and Adam had taken it upon themselves to show Jasmine and Kris their favorite places in town over the next few days.

Mornings in Adam and Kris’s room had taken on a sort of routine. Kris would wake up first, and would always be standing somewhere against a wall or doorframe, texting his wife, always devoid of a shirt when Adam woke up. Adam would say he’d managed another morning without the water-glass wake-up call, and Kris would promise to give him the wake-up call eventually. Adam would go take a shower and get dressed, and then open the bathroom door while he finished with his hair and make-up so he could hear Kris playing his guitar from his place back on the bed.

“Hey, Ryan came by earlie-” Kris started on Sunday morning when Adam pried his eyes open.

“Don’t do that again,” Adam mumbled, pulling the sheet over his head.

Kris just laughed, “I’m being serious,” he protested, and Adam felt the edge of his bed sink down, and guessed that Kris had sat down. Adam felt the sheet being pulled from his grasp, and let his slip so Kris could just see his head. He glanced over to see Kris shaking his head with a smile, “We have to go down and meet with everyone. We’re doing interviews in an hour.”

“An hour?” Adam questioned, sitting up, “You know, today would’ve been a good morning for that wake-up call,” he muttered, throwing the sheets back as he headed to the bathroom. Kris laughter followed him until he snapped the door shut behind him.

The interviews were entertaining if nothing else. (Adam was still teasing Kris for saying “kick-awesome” when they got back to the room a few hours later.) The interviews had ended up being with two people at once. Kris was interviewed with Jesse, and Adam was interview with Stevie. He’d had to try really hard not to laugh when she starting talking about the Jonas Brothers, and didn’t completely succeed. His favorite part was when they asked about him living in LA.

*“I live a couple blocks away,” he said, “Yeah, it’s weird. It’s like being in your backyard. Actually, I can see my house from my balcony.”

“Are you serious?” Stevie asked, glancing over at him.

“No,” Adam pointed out nonchalantly. They both started laughing and Adam corrected himself, “No, I can approximate. I can look be like ‘I know that building, I know that building.’ I can kind of see my neighborhood.”*

When they got back to the room, Kris glanced out towards the balcony of their room, “So can you really see your neighborhood form out there, or were you joking about that too?” he asked with a short laugh.

“Yes, I can,” Adam said in a jokingly defensive voice, then nodded towards the balcony, “Come on.” They walked out on the balcony and Adam walked off to the left side of it and pointed, “See that beige building there?”

“Not really,” Kris said, squinting.

“Come this way a bit,” Adam said, waving him over, “Lean your head that way, now can you see it?”

“Yeah, I think so,” Kris said, squinting, "Is it the one with the trees beside it?”

“Yeah,” Adam said, “If you can see just over those trees, that’s my neighborhood.”

“I can’t see anything,” Kris said, shaking his head. Adam rolled his eyes and laughed. He put a hand on Kris’s shoulder and made him lean a bit farther left, “Oh, ok, I see it,” he said brightly.

Adam smiled a bit, then his breath suddenly caught in his throat. He hadn’t realized how close they were until he felt Kris’s hair brush the bottom of his chin. He bit the inside of his cheek, attempting in vain to not notice the smell of Kris’s cologne. Damnit. Adam cleared his throat awkwardly and took a step back, causing Kris to stumble a little, without Adam to lean on, “What?” Kris asked, glancing back at him curiously.

“Nothing,” Adam said, putting on his usually bright smile, “It’s just so weird being able to see my neighborhood from here,” he added with a laugh.

Kris grinned, “You know, I think I can see my neighborhood from here too,” he said matter-of-factly.

“Oh really?” Adam asked, raising his eyebrows in amusement.

“Yeah,” Kris said nodding, “Actually if look off, um,” he paused and looked around, then back at Adam, “Which way is East?” Adam laughed and pointed right. Kris ignored his laugh and walked to the right side of the balcony, “Yep, see? If you look a few hundred miles that way, you can see my neighborhood. See it?” he asked as Adam came up to stand beside him.

“Oh, yeah,” Adam said, nodding enthusiastically, “It’s clear as day.” They both laughed, leaning against the balcony railing, “Pretty kick-awesome, isn’t it?” Adam asked teasingly.

Kris laughed and elbowed him playfully in the side, “Shut up.”

“Hey!” A voice called out and they both looked up, seeing Alison standing on her balcony two rooms away. They waved as she turned back towards the door and called, “I told you it was them!”

Jasmine walked out, smiling, “Hey guys!” she called brightly.

“You guys are loud,” Alison said with a laugh.

“Sorry,” Adam called back, laughing.

Kris chuckled beside him, “You girls want to go get something to eat?”

“Sure,” Alison said with a bright smile, “We’ll be over there in a minute,” she added, and the girls disappeared inside the room. The guys went back into the room, deciding that this would probably be one of the last nights they could just go hang out and relax without worrying about rehearsals, or being recognized by people who watched the show, though neither really considered that a bad thing.
